I race SKUSA S4 (Spec Honda) with an RLV R4 pipe. It's ~ 2yrs old and I continually have to use WD-40 with a Scotch Brite pad to keep in clean/rust free.

Coating the pipe is against SKUSA rules.

Do you polish your pipe?

If so, how and with what?

A maintenance battle that will never end. Unless you have a stainless pipe of course...

I suppose if you had a pedestal motor that has plenty of clearance you could use a cotton wheel and buffing compound and shine it up after you Scotch Brite it.

Liberally spray the pipe while hot after the last track session of the day.
It sort of cooks on the pipe and leaves it a light brown color. This markedly reduces the tendency for the pipe to rust but only if you do it while the pipe is hot.

This pipe is polished, not chromed. It took about an hour to do it the first time, and the upkeep is about :20 every 4th day at the track.

unfortunately it doesnt make me any faster, but it looks sweet. Turns all sorts of colors the first couple days.

Mostly a scotch brite pad, polishing wheel on a bench grinder and metal polish.
It's kinda messy but if you take your time it'll look like chrome.

The secret is to smoke some crack, then you can stay out in the shop all night polishing

Jimmy,
Not to change the topic but these seats fit and work well for European chassis.
Now your seat can bling just like your pipe. You'll will be more Hollywood than Paris Hilton......not that you aren't already. Laughing

Don't worry Sam, Jimmy doesn't have that chassis any more. All I remember was it looked like he was trying to pull off some Tony Hawk moves down a chain link fence at Lancaster with it. Though, for what it's worth you could say he stuck the landing. Laughing

We used to polish our stock pipes on the wheel exactly like that but at the IKF nationals they told us if we bring them back again they would DQ us both for messing with the pipe. Those words came directly from Motley so you better make sure he doesn't think yours is also illegal.

It could actually be illegal for spec moto as your not allowed to "touch" the pipe! A polished surface holds in heat better than a rough one Shocked
