Hi, iv recently bought my first kart, pavesi 125 brm, think its 2002. Its a brilliant machine, iv only taken it out three times and it was faultless. I changed the gear and clutch oil (wet clutch) and not knowing mutch i left it in neutral when i changed the oil and now it wont go into gear. Not sure how to solve it.
Id appriciate any advice. Thanks

i tried spinin the axel, tried bump starting and ramming the gear leaver for over an hour and nothing happens, doesnt even find the neutrals. Also spun the crank over with a drill and fired it up for a few mins but none of that has worked. thanks for your input  |

Sounds like the shift adjustment bolt on the back of the engine case may need attention. Moving the bolt in or out adjusts the shifting mechanism.
You need to play with it until the gearbox shifts properly. When you find the correct postion, secure the bolt with locktite.

| ok will have a look at that. so you dont think its down to the oil change? just a coincidence its stopped working after that? will be happy if its as simple as a bolt |

| Did you remove the motor to do an oil change? Could it be the linkage/j-arm issue? |

An oil change in itself would not affect the shifting.

+1, this is what I am thinking. Your shift lever on the transmission might be sitting at a funny angle.

i cant post a picture today, camera is broken. i didnt revove the engine atall, but i may have put the wrong amount of oil in. i removed both drain and fill plugs then filled until they reached the drain height. following the guide from http://www.swedetechracing.com/tech_tips/tech_tips_icc_pavesi.html#Area%20oil i used near enough what they said.
i havent changed anything deliberately on the shift angle so think that shud b fine, will still check tho.
other than this i have changed nothing to the kart. thanks |

finally worked out what it is. theres a nut on the gear box next to the breather which i had tightened up too much and that stopped it going into gear. i loosened it off and now it shifts again

Are you referring to the small allen bolt that's screwed in by a small nut screw? if so, that allen bolt has to be turned a specific amount. I forget how many turns. Maybe someone can chime in. I did this one time on one of my Maxter motor's and it was hard to get into gear.

yes, that sounds right bernard. not sure how many times to screw it back. i think there was a small 1 mm space from fully tightned. does it vary position from each gear box or is there one setting for all? it worked perfect before i messed with it

I believe every engine is different. But find out what it's suppose to be set to so you can shift nice and smooth.
