You guys are missing the point of my question. My question is this....are an M2010 (motorcycle), K2010 (karting) and SA2010 (fire retardant protection) helmet offer the same impact protection? Basically, is the impact test for a M,K or SA helmet with a 2010 rating the same test?

The testing types are typically the same, but some of the test values can differ. K/SA are the same though.

Unless Snell has changed something in the last (2010) update (I haven't reviewed 2010 in detail, but I did review the 2005 in detail), it works like this:

SA is the 'highest' rating. It allows a smaller eye port relative to M. Only SA includes a fire resistant requirement.

K is the same as SA with 'fireproof' requirements deleted.

M is similar to K except:
K and SA have a 'rollbar' impact requirement that is not included in M
K and SA have a more stringent requirement for face shield penetration (in affect, M allows a 0.050" shield, it takes a 0.125" shield to pass K/SA)
As noted above, M requires a large eyeport relative to K/SA, although it allows exceptions if proper warnings are included.

Aside from the roll hoop impact and face shield, all impacts and pass/fail criteria are the same between M, K, and SA.

Tim
