What are the Helmet spec.s for 2013 & forward

Do you mean safety standards required by most karting orgs? If so, you'll have to check with the orgs you plan to run. In my experience, most require the helmet meet SA or M 2005 or newer.

As an example, here's what SKUSA allows (per rule book):

Snell: K98 (exp 12/31/2014); K2005 (exp 12/20/15); K2010;
M2005 (exp 12/20/15); M2010 (exp 12/20/20); SA2005 (exp 12/20/15);
SA2010 (exp 12/20/20); CMR-2007 (youth helmet/exp 12/20/15);
CMS-2007 (youth helmet/exp 12/20/15); SFI: 24.1 (youth helmet/exp 12/20/12);
24.1/2005 (youth helmet/exp 12/20/15); 24.1/2010 (youth helmet/exp 12/20/20);
31.2A (exp 12/20/13); 31.1/2005 (exp 12/20/15); 31.1/2010 (exp 12/20/20);
41.1/2005 (exp 12/20/15); 41.1/2010 (exp 12/20/20);
41.2A (exp 12/20/13); British: All must have been manufactured in
2001 or later: BS6658-85 Type A (exp 12/20/13) or
BS6658-85 Type A/FR (exp 12/20/13).

If you're really just interested in helmet specs, I'm sure each manufacturer has that on their respective websites.

Randy gave you a veru detailed answer, but remember, it all depends on the org you are running, and most will not let you run a brand new helmet which certification is more then 10 yrs old. And yes, most places do check helmets in pre race tech.

While we're on the topic of helmets.......

I'm assuming the rating for a bike helmet that is M2010 is the same as a kart helmet that is K2010? And the equivalent impact rating as a SA2010, with the SA having the extra fire retardant aspect? Therefore, all helmets would offer the exact same impact protection....it just comes down to a matter of which helmet you like the looks, comfort and fit of. I'm a correct or am I missing something?

Obviously any helmet that's certified has passed the required tests.

There is pretty big difference in build quality between a $200 and an $800 helmet though. Maybe they offer the same protection, but more comfortable pads, better hardware, cleaner overall packaging, good secondary materials all make the $800 helmet much nicer to wear.

Buy a Kia or buy a Ferrari, it's up to you.

You guys are missing the point of my question. My question is this....are an M2010 (motorcycle), K2010 (karting) and SA2010 (fire retardant protection) helmet offer the same impact protection? Basically, is the impact test for a M,K or SA helmet with a 2010 rating the same test? Or is a motorcycle helmet subjected to a test that would likely simulate the type of impact sustained in a motorcycle crash, for example the motorcycle hitting a stationary object and the rider being thrown over the handle bars which may result in one, hard impact vs a kart helmet that may be subject to a test that subjects the helmet to several less severe impacts?

I know the difference between a $200 & $800 in relation to materials, weight, comfort, etc. My question has nothing to do with the cost or comfort factor of the helmet, rather the impact rating.

There is more then one impact test. There are several different tests into various objects when rating a helmet. If you search around on the net you can find more specifics about the tests. In just a quick search I turned up that m rated helmets are rated to a slightly lower level of impacts. K and SA are rated to the same impacts. Does this mean m helmets are held to a slightly lower impact in all the various tests or just a few I do not know. As I said earlier SA rated helmets are also subject to a additional test that has to do with roll bar impacts, this might be what is referred to in a M helmet being held to a slightly lower impact test.
