What was the first track you ever drove a kart on?

My first track that I actually raced at was in Columbiana, OH.. That was around 1994 and have been karting ever since. My first time on a kart was around 1962 I was 6 or 7 and it was at a track in the Springfield Mass area. My dad had a kart shop way back then..

my first race was at glen morgan speedway in star idaho in about 2000. 1/4 mile total length sprint track with dirt pits. I think the track oppened in the early 1970's.
my first race i got lapped by all several times, but a couple of the fast guys Tim Ross and Larry Kierpiewski lapped me 4 times. On that last lapping i spun it, in the dog leg after the start/finish line , right in front of larry- his eyes got big as we barely kept from hitting head on!
Great memories, great friends, and a few crazy stories from that little track in Star! I cant wait for April!

There was a rental/race track at Milpitas, CA near the old Fremont Raceway that rented KT100 karts. I remember spinning out about a hundred times and having an absolute blast. I'm not gonna count the fun kart rental track near the county fairgrounds where they ran out and told me to slow down Laughing

1997 Monrovia Raceway in Maryland in a TonyKart KT100 pipe that I bought off the the old Kart Mailing List that preceded eKartingnews.com. I am pretty sure the track is closed now.

Retired from racing in 2009 but if someone makes me a good offer, I will race again.

Mine was Oxnard. Which also was on a beach with some of the best beach break surf in California. You could race and grab a surf in the afternoon. I still surf that beach sometimes even though the track is gone.

Moran -2004, in a used Tony Kart "Extreme". Two VETERAN kart guys I talked to at Amago, suggested that I might want to start with a clutch kart... "But I found this great deal on this Shifter..." As a motorcycle road racer for 15+ years, I understood gearing and jetting. They later confessed that I shouldn't have been able to go that fast, as a "XL" novice driver, using motorcycle race lines, in a shifter!
B.C. and J.M. made my transition from motorcycles, to Karts, much more graceful. They slowed down, after Jim starting collecting his Social Security...! (Anybody remember a remark on a SKUSA regional podium, about him not being able to afford new tires, because his SS check was late?)
I am STILL amazed how fast Bruce is, when he has his kart "On it's toes, and dancing".
Us two hundred fifty pound Karters will NEVER be 'at the front', but it is FUN. Karting has provided MANY hours of entertainment, some intellectual, as well as some practical "Physic's" tests, and a LOT of BENCH racing material.

Sept. 1980 - Adkins Raceway, Port Washington, OH - Trick Kart, KT100
(transported with all gear in the back of my Dodge Colt wagon!)

Won my class in my first full year of racing in '81. (which also included
some red-haired hotshoe college kid named Johnny O'Connell Smile

Also raced some at Columbiana and Camden before 'discovering' Mid-Ohio
and other long tracks.

Moved up to F/125 then 250Twin and never went Sprint racing again in my
24-years of racing karts.

For me it was in the parking lot of Farmers Insurance in Van Nuys CA in 1960 with a nasty ass home made frame and a McCullough dirict drive. Sepulveda Dam was always fun as well. Way more kart and motor than talent.
For my son it was IMI in 1999. They still havent pumped the shitter since then. Shocked

First race July 1967 Badger Kart Club. Got pushed off the track by Allan Kulwicki after having a tire go down. Couldn't support racing on my paper route budget and didn't get back to BKC until July of 2007, haven't stopped racing since.
