Well.. another lesson learned.. for all of us...after thousands and thousands of questions and some bad attitude..our friend Cesar is selling the kart.. without driving half lap.... so who won?.. we wasted our time trying to explain technical questions.. mechanical reasons about chassis performance etc..pages and pages on this forum ...and now what?
It was Tracy Connor in 2011 and it was Cesar Rull in 2012..asking questions and questions but never went to a kart shop..so I hope next time.. soon.. we can help a beginner in better way for him/her and better for us too..
I wish a great and fun 2013 to all our kart community..
Gabriel

Thanks for the update.

Hopefully others who are wanting to get started will read the threads and learn how important it is to actually go to the track and talk with the people you'll be racing with.

Cheers,

If you don't know people in real life that are just like this, you don't get out enough.

So true!! Sad
Although this particular example (and others) have gotten lots of attention on this forum, the sad fact is that it happens all the time.
I've been in the karting business for decades and truly close to a third of the machines that have gone out the door have never been used (at least by the original buyer) or used once and never again.
About 4 years ago I put together two complete TAG karts for two brothers. A year ago they brought them back to me to be sold. They had never even started them.
I sold a personal kart a little over a year ago, customer bought every possible accessory, farkled out an already farkled up kart, had custom uniform made, high end paint job on new helmet.
It's never been on the track since.

Guys, that's what this forum is about. Discussing topics around the sport, helping new people understand it and helping them out with any issues they have.

As we have always said since day one when speaking with someone just getting into the sport, we point them to their local kart shop or track. After that, help guide them in the right direction on any other specific questions.

When our new website launches, we will have an updated New to Karting section that will see updates monthly, and point 'newbies' in the right direction.

Let's not hammer on individuals who leave the sport, we have no idea of their personal situations.

While i understand the situation being stated and even helped Cesar with some radiator hose myself, posts like these really take this site down a notch. Some people get in over their heads and go about things in the wrong way. Move on an forget about it. Deliberately bashing the person has no positive side to it whatsoever.

When I first started I asked a lot of stupid questions, probably still do from time to time. No reason to bash a guy.

Didnt mean to rip on him. But he tried to reinvent the wheel when he didnt like the answer you gave him. Cold fact, dont start in a shifter if you havent a clue.

The sad truth about karting and just about anything that cost money right now. If you dont have cash to blow. Dont bother with it until times are better for you.

Problem in general with people looking to get into karting with little money in this. They purchase a kart ready to practice/race. Never thinking to much of getting a trailer to haul it around . The cost in purchase, then the huge added expence in fuel cost.
Now back to kart, something breaks, they need tools to work on kart. They need replacement parts. They need tires, the right oil, fuel, ect, ect, ect.......

Before you know it this once affordable sport, isnt affordable anymore.

I think Caesar tried a TAG kart hurt and hurt his ribs. That might have something to do with him getting out. Being new to this I'll give you some insight as to my experience so far. I was advised over and over to start with a TAG kart and instead I got a shifter. I'm glad I did I'm having a blast and so are my son's (both in box stock). I'm not saying it was bad advice it wasn't but even good advice doesn't automatically fit everyone. Every vendor I've dealt with has been great. Everyone I've run into at various different tracks has been very helpful and friendly. This site for the most part is terrific. Unfortunately there is a small but very vocal minority on here who feel that they're experience and expertise gives them a license to be rude and condescending some even get annoyed when they're advice is not followed. It's a forum which should be a collection of ideas from a broad range of experience levels. If your going to get annoyed if the advice you voluntarily give is not followed and go out of your way to make the person who asked look like an idiot then don't give the advice in the first place. Most people thinking of getting into something new to them start with an Internet forum. Nothing will drive them away faster than that.

David, there's asking questions, and there's taking advantage..

Asking a bazillion questions and either quitting the whole deal, or deciding you know better all along, and going in a direction that everyone is telling you is the wrong way, is taking advantage of peoples experience and good nature to share that experience....

Also not using the search feature in here should be a on the no-no list and added to the forum rules... There's very few questions at this point for a newb, that haven't been discussed at least 100 times in here before....

There's still a spot for low budget racers.

If you get a used kart with a 4 stroke or KT100 and throw it in the back of a pickup truck you can have a great time without major cash outlays. And, the experienced guys who are running these classes for fun will help out a beginner for sure with advice, parts, etc.

You just need to go to the track and seek out some of these folks. Just go past the motorhomes and enclosed trailers till you get to the guy with a pickup truck and a toolbox who looks like he knows what he's doing. He'll steer you in the right direction for getting a used kart and gear cheap because he's hoping you'll stay in the sport long enough to be competition for him or his kid.

I've been online discussing cars and karts since 1995 and the anonymity of sitting behind a keyboard makes for some pretty harsh comments sometimes. This forum is definitely one of the best as far as friendly participation and good moderators so anyone starting here and "listening" to the responses given by long term as well as recent posters will definitely get some solid advice and encouragement.

Rob, David, and all the staff at EKN should be commended on keeping a great resource going through good times and bad Very Happy

Cheers,
