Use zip ties in the heat of battle ... When you have time and you don't want it to fall off safety wire is the only way to go Cool

No safety wire in the inside tanl fittings. it will only last a couple weeks before it cuts through the fuel line.

Ironically fuel is very bad for the plastic fuel line.

I am now giving Tygon a try and see how long it lasts.

Still think you need to rebuild your fuel pump.

I agree on rebuilding the fuel pump. I have been trying to find a rebuild kit locally....boy does that get some interesting responses. It seems a lot of the motorcycle people around here don't know anything bout karts. I found one guy that seemed to know that Mikuni made fuel pumps. I also found a lawn mower shop that knew Mikuni made pumps but he was trying to tell me they were not rebuildable and he had a nice round one in stock that he would sell me that would do the same job.

Any ideas on the type of place to find one locally? We used to have Sears parts store that I would try but they closed about a year ago. What do the square pumps come on stock? The only half reference I could find was an FL-250, which is a four wheeler Honda stopped making in 1984. The kid I was talking to at the dealer said that was the year he was born so I knew instantly that I needed a more contemporary model that this thing came on.

I may just end up ordering one. I just really wanted to get something local for speed and to possibly start building a relationship with a local shop.

I would be suprised if a Square mikuni (like on Rotax) would supply enough fuel for a CR 125.

Motorcycle shops in my area have a catalog, Find a mikuni round pump that looks like yours in there and uy a rebuilt kit (would have to order). On the other hand rebuilt kits are $10-$20, and if someone in your area has a complete pump for $30-ish, why not buy it? and remember, you need two of them. Also remember if you are replacing membranes and stuff on your pumps, that the most important one is the little ones, not the big ones. And take pictures before EACH disassembly step. The membranes and gaskets are similar looking but they are different.

I don't think his setup is a pump around, so only one would be needed. I'll buy a new fuel pump every time opposed to rebuilding them, rebuild kit is 15-20 and a new pump is 30ish, just makes sense to me to spend the few extra bucks and not have to hassle with rebuilding them.

As for the air bubbles go in the fuel lines, you'll see that, not a big issue unless there is more air than fuel making it to the pump.

Make sure your pulse line is secured well also, after you get it the length and shape you want (shorter is better), take if off and put it in a pan of pump gas overnight to harden it up a bit.

Fuel issues suck, not as much as brake issues though! good luck with getting her running.

Russ,

Try pulling off the bowl on the carb. After sitting that long maybe the jets are clogged up. only takes about 15 minutes to completely disassemble one and put it back together.

Bill I have two round Mikuni pumps that need rebuild. Wanna do mine. Because I think of the pumps just like Shawn does. Great big PITA.

I was amazed at how much difference there is in a new pump volume compared to one just 6 months old.

I have rebuilt my round Mikuni pump once since 2007.... Unless you count Blythville when 1/2 a rebuild was done out of user error (see previous comment about fuel pickup being IN the fuel).

Just making sure no potential KM peeps think fuel pumps need constant rebuilds Cool

Where in FL are you? Best bet is to find your closest Kart Shop for common parts as there are quite a few shops in FL ... Not so here in Middle TN

I never rebuilt either of the pumps on Lisa's and my shifters, the exception was Julian's 60cc when we first got it.

It is not a regular maintenance item, IMO, for what we do with the karts.

I've only replaced mine once, and there really wasn't any reason to do it, I just wanted the 90 degree outputs. But I wouldn't rebuild one if I thought it was an issue, I'd just replace it.

My kart is awesome so far, two events and too much fun. I will post some pictures in a new thread of the engine, I "carter-ized" it.

Also just reading through Russ's post I had a difficult starting a running kart for the first time. hope he figures it out.
