Here is a new topic. Why make the age for the Leopard semi-pro to start at 14 yrs old and for the leopard-pro to start at 16? Why not just have the leopard pro age to start at 15? The sooner you can get them to transition over the better they will be in the long run. _________________ www.checkeredmotorsports.com

I'd like to clarify the thoughts behind the 30mm header.
First, it was looked at as a compromise for the Master racers that wanted Yamaha instead of Leopard, there's a good amount of them out there. Even with the 30mm header the class would still have 10+ HP over a Yamaha but it was hoped this would increase interest in the class from the Yamaha guys.
Second, it was hoped that the small reduction in power would make the class more competitive and benefit the more "seasoned" shall we call them, racers in the Masters class.
When you try to whittle classes down to the bare essentials its hard to make everyone happy (okay, impossible). The hope was to help bridge the gap between the Yamaha Masters guys and the hardcore TaG Masters guys. |

Hi Robbie,
One of the ideas behind the Leopard Semi-Pro class was to give the older kids a chance to hone their skills in the Tag for a bit before dumping them right into the Pro class. For the Pro class to be "Pro", we need to make sure the drivers in this class are experienced with the higher HP, tires, etc..
Semi Pro will also be a great place for smaller Sr. drivers who don't want to bolt on a ton of weight to get some great competitive racing. _________________ High Quality American Made kart stands. Available direct to you or through one of our many dealers.

I'm all about a masters class and most likely will be buying a leopard but just want to know why adding a restrictor to the leopard would entice a Yamaha masters driver to race leopard. It's not a speed thing it's a cost issue. I run Yamaha because you can run an engine all season long and most of the time run half the season on the same set of tires. I understand that the restrictor will help out on longevity of the leopard and I am all about keeping costs down. If you want Yamaha masters guys to show than offer a Yamaha masters class. Us "seasoned" gents have really no place to run nationally with a Yamaha. |

Jason - way to kill a thread! I think its great for someone to bring a fresh approach to how a kart series should be run. I really hope (and believe) that focusing on the racers needs will result in a successful program. having said that, I can't say that I disagree with anything you posted. I believe there are at least a couple other major organizations that offer Tag Masters so I kinda wonder if this will serve to water down the fields in other orgs or possibly reduce the potential fields in this one, or if the Tag Masters guys will just look at this as 4 or 5 added weekends of racing and just add it to their existing schedules - time will tell. Yamaha Masters guys have been eliminated from the schedule of most orgs now even though I don't believe the fields were much smaller than the Tag fields that replaced them (someone may correct me on this if wrong). I think a Yamaha Masters class with the new Pipe combination would have been a big success with many folks that think karting has left them behind. I was thinking I might even give it a try. I could spring for an added $250 to get set up for that (and probably get my tail handed to me in the races) and I could live with that.... I'm not willing to spend 10 times that (minimum) to get into Tag Masters for the same results. I am out for fun, but its like anything else, everyone has to determine how much it is worth to them and right now I don't see me getting 10 times more fun out of Tag Masters vs Yamaha Masters. I suspect we will support the series with one or two of my sons competing but spending that sort of money on a Tag setup for me takes away how much I can help them with their efforts.
I suspect that the organizers had many of these same discussions while determining which classes to offer in the series and determined that this structure would offer them the best chance of success. I don't have any money in it so I certainly don't have any say in the decisions. They have posted on several occasions that they are interested in hearing back from the racers so I decided to chime in. |

Hey Roberto - come over and join me in Semi-Pro where the weight is 335. Of course we'll be running the reduced header and I'll only be 44 years older than the youngest drivers but I hey I should be able to find someone in the pits to help me lift my kart _________________ Mark Peters

Answer me this, since you and Mr. Peters are the ONLY people whining the weight is too heavy. Where exactly do either of you race outside of Badger?!?!? I think I saw Mr. Peters at road america, outside of that what other NATIONAL events/Series do either of you run? This is a national series correct? Tag Masters weight for a LEOPARD in SKUSA Pro Tour (national series) - #385, WKA Man. Cup (national series) - #385 so, how is it such a GIANT deal for 10# more? I just dont get it........
Would you like a Tag Masters Anorexic class just for you two? And from my research, the Badger Kart Club TaG Masters race series has the weight of the Leopard at #385 as well.......are you whining and complaining there as well because the weight is so unfair to the flyweight racers?
I thought #395 was a fair compromise between everyone involved, those who normally race a leopard and those of us who dont, either by choice or by body type. And as for anyone whining about not making a kart handle or not work at such a heavy weight, thats BS plain and simple, I am proof of that racing at #405...... _________________ Brian McHattie

I agree with John Salsbury's comment "I think a Yamaha Masters class with the new Pipe combination would have been a big success with many folks that think karting has left them behind".
In the heyday of karting, Yamaha was the most popular class. These racers are now Masters in age and a little heavier (as happens with age). My believe Yamaha is where their comfort level would lie rather than having to learn a new engine package. Combine that with the fact that many still have Yamaha's left in the basement or garage and I think that would bring more racers. |

I think the Masters weight is fair for everyone.
The Badger Tag Masters Series, 90% of field could hold there own in a National Series. Most stay close to home. Its one of the BEST club Tag Masters series in the country in my opinion. If you can find the space for the extra 10#'s Mark give it a go. |

Thanks for making the Masters age 30+.
I'll do my best to be at Mooresville, riding around the back and having some fun. _________________ Website Designs - http://www.godesigns.us |

First of all, I would like to say, I was not trying to offend anyone. I have a lot of respect for guys like yourself... who can go to any track and win. (at any weight)........
To answer your question, I have only raced Badger tag master class for the last 3 years, so I thought this year, maybe I would venture out there, maybe a WKA..or some other series....... since this is a new series, with only 7 classes, it really got my attention... I liked the idea of more seat time......... I also liked the idea of just one motor... and since I am a small 51 year old, when I saw they had it advertised at 380... I was like.. WOW, I will give it a try.... Since my budget is also Small, I thought I could handle 4 traveling weekends, well 3 really, since one race would be at Badger..
Just an FYI, I put 30 lbs of lead on the kart to be at 385, now to put an extra 10 lbs.........????
when does it stop.. Anyway, I will continue to do Tag masters at Badger... and I wish everyone the best of luck!!! sounds like it is going to be a great series..
Mark Peters,
Maybe we should ask Franklin to build us a Kart with 2 seats and you and I can do the Tag masters _________________ #11 TAG & TAG MASTERS

10 pounds more is all you have to add? I know Juniors that put on more than 40 lbs on to make the weight, it can be done.
So add the weight and go have some fun. _________________ Website Designs - http://www.godesigns.us |
