In an other post about your favorite track, Ted Hamilton mentioned that his favorite track was the first one he ever drove on. I thought it might be interesting to hear about some of the tracks that started out the karting "carreers" of many of the EKN members.....
Mine was many years ago on the sprint track in Katy Tx with the Gulf Coast Kart Club. I see the basic layout is still in existance, but they did a major extension of the track a few years back.
Where was yours? |

Greg, what about the street race they ran in Noblesville? That was my first street race, probably about 1988-1989, man that was a crazy layout. |

First track - A small Sprint track set up in the middle of Phoenix International Raceways drag strip/road course straight. Temporary track set up with cones. This was early 1973 or so. Reed Light was the class.
That same year had Picacho - A Sprint track laid out on an unused Air Force Auxiliary strip. It's now a helicopter training base.
Last "first" track that year was a Sprint track set up with cones in the back parking lot of Glendale Community college. Good luck trying to run there today! _________________ Benn Herr

| Cuddebackville Ny.Now known as Oakland Valley Raceway Park. My Mom and Dad raced there in the 60's. I started in 1972 with a Rupp a-bone Kart and a 91b1 Mac. I have a pic of Mom in shorts and a do-rag racing around the original track. I wish I could post the Pics. |

| Mark- I ran N. Webster in 72,73,74, started running at Glen Lewis's track outside of Auburn on hwy 8. You ever run there? Were you a Decon or Eagle? I keep in touch with Bob Ferguson, he and Bruce are fine, still run dirt with monster 2 cycle motors. I was shocked when a recently saw a Rupp abone with a 101. did I actually fit into that? |
