Would anyone mind sharing their experience with the Vega Red tires being used by the Rotax Max series?

I'm quite familier with the Bridgestone YGC and usually begin with pressures about 8.5 psi up front and 10.5-11 in the rear.

At what pressures do the Vega's seem to be optimum at?

Do they seem to like more or less heat than the YGC?

Are they faster for qualifing being scrubbed a few laps, or being stickers?

Any information on these tires would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If I remember correctly, it seems the reds need more pressure than the YGCs. Somwhere like 14-18 psi. Can anyone confirm this, we only ran these tires for a short time.

Depending on the weather and track temp I have had success with 12-14 #'s cold. They have tremendous grip when new. I have found that they tend to consistently go away after a few laps each session.

Rick,
We have run the Vegas at seven events now in Florida since February. Earlier in the year we started with 14lbs. cold, but as the year has progressed and the heat comes up i have started using 12lbs. cold as my baseline. Depending on the track temp that my be a little high even still. I remember last week in Jacksonvilee I think I may have gone as low as 10.5 - 11.0 cold at one point. I hope this helps...

Nick

I run the vega reds and we start out with 12-13 psi. cold. They get to about 15psi when hot. We use regular air also as appose to nitrogen. Try out different tire pressures and see what works best. I think the manufaturer states 16-18 psi????? Dont ask me why though. good luck

Try lowering the pressure a little.

Folks,

The HS recommended pressure is 9 PSI. Check out www.sscracing.com/vega/index.htm In my experience I ran my rears pretty low at about 10-11 hot in the rear and about 2 psi higher in the front. But that's the HS, is the "red" the HS? I'm not sure.

Also, if your rear tires have a couple of "humps" when you look at them, they are very happy.

I wish we could get back to 6" tires!

Hi Gary,

What does this mean? I try and get an even grain accross my tires...am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,
Rob

The Vega web site lists 12 psi as the recommended pressure for the XR Red's.
I assume that is hot and find them loose at higher pressures.
