Hello,
I am seeing a lot of the older style armadillo vests for sale (the red and black) are they still good? Or should I invest in the newer ones?
Thanks!! |

Stacy,
The red and black version was our first design. If the SFI tag is still attached to the vest, it's good to go.
The current design, which is the third revision, has a number of changes that came from both from customer feedback and testing.
During development of the latest design, we tested all the SFI certified chest protectors... we're proud to say the current Armadillo has the most impact absorption of any of them.

Stacey,
My kid wears one of the older style (Red/Black) and has so for the last 2 years.
I am pretty sure he is the third one to enjoy the protection it is giving him. For the age it has held up really well and will be a good vest for the next karter down the road.
I have it all the way out just to fit him now and it still protects him all the way around as intended. I will need to get him the next size up when I can fit it in the budget and would have no problem getting another one of the older ones if I can find one.
So, don't hesitate to pick up one of the older styles if you find one in good shape and good price range.
I may even get one of the newer styles for him as I do like the new design elements, but with our plans of him running 2 classes next year and myself trying to also enter a few races that may just be on hold for now, but like I said before the older style is just as good as the newer ones and would trust it without doubt.
Good stuff, good quality and good protection from what we have seen and experianced.

In my opinion the armadillo is the best protection I have found for my kid out there.
BTW: Don't forget about above the shoulders - Look into getting one of the EVS Rc Evolution Race Collars for her as well and as far as helmets go you can't beat the Vega Track Jr's, for the complete safety solution.
I have personally seen all these items put to serious use/abuse on the track and not a boo boo or owie from these protected areas using these items. As far as the helmet and neck brace they were toast but did thier jobs very good.
Have fun and be safe: Thats what karting should be about...
