Hey guys,
I am running a stock intrepid seat and it fits extremely well.... If I were a normally shaped human being.
You see, my problem is that Im like an upside down pyramid... My waist is skinny as hell, with large lungs and chest, and medium-ish shoulder....
The top of my seat fits GREAT. But the lower has enough space that I slam my hips on either side from corner to corner.
Soooooo..... I am looking for some 1/4-3/8" Dense black foam that is sticky back... I dont know exactly how to explain it, but I know many of you have seen the type of foam I am talking about. It is dense, and almost feels like gel, slightly memory like, but it seems to "rebound" pretty darn slowly.
I feel this will work great because It will keep my skinny butt from sliding back and forth, meanwhile filling in the gap on the side nice and snuggly.
Anyhow, I hope you all have an Idea of what I am talking about, and where I can get it?? I need a sheet like 2'x2' or so, so that I can cut it down into hip and butt pads.....
EDIT, Yup I am an idiot.... I had a brain fart... I am looking for Neoprene-ish type sticky back... |

Thanks!
I guess I will give neoprene A Try! Ideally I am looking for this weird stuff we had when I used to work at a bike shop. It was gel-like foam, that had a very slow return. This was used to measure "butt bone" spacing so that we could properly fit people to seats. It was similar to neoprene, but different at the same time...
Has anyone used neoprene or this type of purpose? |

Couple of things I've tried over the years that works well.
Interlocking yoga/exercise flooring:
They have cheaper stuff like this at some department stores. It's basically what I've always used for my seat padding. Dense, thick, but still gives enough under cornering to limit bruising or pain. Just cut it to whatever size you want and tape it in.
Another thing I started using this year after hurting my ribs was the cheek pads out of my old helmet:
I just put some velcro strips on the sides of the seat and used the velcro already on the pads to fasten them in. They aren't as dense as the mats above, but they work surprisingly well and they are shaped to fit basically perfectly on the side of the seat. After using them I haven't had any rib issues the rest of the season. The helmet they came out of was an Impact. I know with a Bell or Arai it probably wouldn't work as well because they have really dense styrofoam behind the soft padding. _________________ T.J. Koyen

| TJ, great idea! The pads that are in the IMPACT helmets are the same material that I referenced in my earlier post. Bald Spot Sports manufactures the helmet pads with less density than they use in Safety Seat Inserts, 1.25 for a helmet and 1.5-1.9 for the Seats and Inserts. |
