Definitely lap the friction hub to the crankshaft using valve lapping compound.
No impact wrench here. use a torque wrench and a piston stop. The 24mm nut is the critical one and it is left hand thread. When torqed and installed correctly you should be able to see at least one full thread beyond the face of the nut. Be sure to install the conical washer correctly. If you were looking at a cross sectional view of the washer, the widest side faces the friction hub. This is so critical to get it correct. If you don't the friction hub will come loose and in most cases fuse itself to the crankshaft then shear the crank's PTO shaft. _________________ Patrick Hubbell |

My 09 Leopard doesn't have a key-way in the "Clutch" hub. Friction material bolts to the starter ring with three 6 mm hex head bolts. Starter gear does not have a key-way.
Clean off the taper, both, and use red loc-tite, or 648. ROTAK is the same way.
There are some Leopard belt drive drums available for road racing.
USE A TORQUE WRENCH. You can flatten out the small washer and bind up the drum. NO IMPACT! _________________ Jean Stafford

| So you guys are recommending using a piston stop. I was always told that was a no no, has that thought changed or was I mis informed? |

| use a piston stop to tighten the outer nut that holds the drum. it doesn't need much torque. use a clutch holder tool to tighten the big nut that hold the clutch itself. |

| Jim, loctite is not really necessary. In any case it would only be used for the nut. You can lap the friction hub and the shaft tapered mating surfaces with lapping compound for a perfect fit. Definitely use a torque wrench. |
