Recently, there have been a rash of posts that exceed the forum guidelines on ‘promotion’.
Whether it is an announcement of a new track, a new kart model, or a recently changed rule that allow drivers holding certain licenses to run a class, posts such as those are more for promotion of the individual’s (or a close associate’s) business efforts.
The reason for this guideline is threefold: One, Ekartingnews is a news gathering and reporting entity, and the majority of the site is dedicated towards that end. News needs to be handled as news, for the good of this site and for the karting community. Information in question should be sent to EKN in press release format so it can be properly reported in the news sections. Two, the Discussion Forums are just that, a place to discuss issues, not a bulletin board to post any and all announcements. Many of you came from the ‘Muller’ boards where that was allowed, but again, EKN is a different animal and there is a place for those items. Three, EKN is a for-profit concern and subsequently charges advertisers that you see right now for exposure on these forums. Justifiably, EKN needs to provide value for those advertisers and if any business can blatantly promote their wares in the forums, it undermines both EKN’s and the sponsors’ efforts.
Surely, many of you will take exception or question where the line should be drawn. Constructive questions and feedback are welcome, and we do have the EKN Feedback section for this. You can also contact the individuals if needed. One note: if you’re issue is a First Amendment one, please save it as we’ve been down that road many times.
With gratitude,
Ekartingnews and its Forum Moderators |
