I ordered a silencer above with me engine package. It all arrived and it is not on the kart. I noticed the exit end of the pipe it aiming exactly on top of the corner of the plastic bumper. there is about 1.5" clearance at mosr.

I have two questions, The exit port is aiming down and has a flange.
what is the purpose of the flange at the end? Can I eliminate it to get more clearance from the bumper?

I know the silencer point down in efforts to be quieter from reading another thread, is this correct?

my other question is will the bumper be affected by the heat of the exhaust (get heated / deform etc)

Thanks.[img][/img]

Are the tracks in your area requiring additional silencing than normal? If not you bought the wrong silencer.
That silencer was designed to cover noise problems at two tracks Moran's (No longer with us) and Infineon. Both in California.

No, he did just fine. It's a 14" silencer and will work perfectly ok. It's not the 18" laguna seca one.

Hi Greg, no noise requirements to comply with that I know off.
tyson is right, that is a 14" silencer.

I just e-mail my engine builder and we discussed me taking the pipe to the muffler shop and have them cut the angled tube. I just wonder if it just easier to exchange the silencer rather than to hack this one in efforts to have good results.

I wonder if I cut it, if I will change any of the characteristics of it in terms of performance (back pressure) and if it will sound like a nasty old lawnmower. I don't want that.

Cesar, unless you race at the Infineon kart track in NorCal, which I believe requires the shifters to use both an airbox and the 14" Moran spec silencer, just cut the angled downpipe off (I did on my 14" M4 silencer). When you cut it off, I used a hacksaw and held the silencer in a vise, just leave a little bit so you can smooth it down with a belt sander then file off the burrs. No, it won't negatively effect performance, it's there simply to direct the sound.

Why cant you just rotate it so it's not pointing at the bumper?

FYI - the washer on the end of the out tube is required by the rules. This is to prevent it from being a hole punch on someone's body when things go wrong. There is wording around rolled edges, washers, etc. Not sure if all sanctioning bodies have that language somewhere, but I do know of at least one.
