Just wondering, are there more sprint 4 cycle guys on this post than Oval (either dirt or paved) racers.

Would be interesting to find out.

There are alot of us dirt oval guys here in the East and most seem to be on Bob's, Most are quite busy til winter sometimes racing 2-3 times per week, then getting ready for the indoor bullrings, (something you all should see at least once!!!) There are alot of small tracks that use WKA rules but are not affiliated in any other way. some of us are on this site , but as I suspect most aren't using this site.IMHO.

We started out in the mid 80s doing sprint, stayed with that for the most part until 3 years ago, now we do an equil amount of sprint ovals and enduros, we seem to like the enduros best, high speed and big tracks, but all three are fun, Right now were waiting for the indoor bullrings to start, those by far are the most intence,. and really alot of fun , don't think I could ever go back to doing just one type, really like the varity. I've never seen a dirt oval kart race. I have some questions:

How fast do (2 cycle) karts typically go when racing on a dirt oval? How sideways do they get? Are they like non-winged sprint cars, where the drivers "back 'em in" to the corners? Do they race 125cc shifters on dirt?

thanks,
-erik

We'd love to get more coverage of oval racing. It will take a more dedicated effort on our part as we can't just hop in the car and go see one.

Erik--
I have not seen any 125cc shifter (the kind you find on sprint tracks and road courses) on Dirt Ovals. or paved ovals. But there was a Class called the Mini-Outlaws running 250cc and 500cc engines with wing. They where exciting to watch. We are racing the Rotax Max FR 125 on a Dirt Track and I can tell you they are a REAL hoot on dirt. Not sure of the speed, but are exciting. 1/5 mile oval racing can be real exciting and fun to watch. I started out in Sprint racing in the early 70's, yeah I am a old fart+

I think you would like it it you saw it and gave it a try. Its a different type racing that is just as challenging as any sprint or road racing. Heck, I have a guy in the Rotax thats 57 years old been racing all his life, SCCA, KArts and he says Dirt racing is the most fun he has racing in along time.

An in/out box is all that is needed to be fast around an oval. Shifting would slow you down in most casses.
