I would imagine a thermal camera costs a considerable amount more than $380 dollars. That Go Pro is strictly night vision right?
It would be really cool to actually see how a kart engine heats up over 20 or 30 laps and how richening the mixture as the motor heats up affects the temperature and how significant that is in terms of actual data.
Would you be able to do that? |

$4000.00 to $6000.00 A military surplus store might be a place to shop. Would be cool to see the pipe and the tires. |

| I went to drive the track on a rental kart on wed. It was getting dark pretty quickly and I was having a hard time seeing... I can only imagine when it gets dark and I am on the faster kart. I think a light it not a bad idea guys. |

Maybe on rentals if they end up running late. But it's very rare to get a night race, unless the track already has infield lighting. And besides, practicing at night is useless anyway since the track changes massively when the sun starts setting. And if you're blasting around in the dark with nothing but a few flashlights taped to your kart, you're asking for an accident. _________________ T.J. Koyen

There are some lights but its not too bright.
I have to admit I did have a shaded visor on my helmet.
Ill have to get the clear one for night.
Practice is at night at that track. But as a side note. I loved driving outside compared to indoor. More "realistic" |

No, wrong, it is a bad idea! Really? Seriously? I usually sit back and read this stuff, but come on - if this is the case - if you really think you need a headlight mounted on your shifter kart, you shouldn't be in it - plain and simple. _________________ TVS Motorsports -

Yea, guess that'd be ok, not real sure what you'd be protecting anyway! _________________ TVS Motorsports -

Cesar, where are you planning on racing? Is it Ocala Gran Prix? If so they have more than adequate lighting. I raced there for the night race in September and we are having one again this weekend and I could see fine, but then again I did have a clear visor on once the sun went down.

Cesar,
Go to the track. Look up. If they have lights you can drive at night.
Yes, you will have to purchase a clear visor.
It won't be like driving in the daytime, not just because it's dark but also because the track will be colder.
Trust me, they won't let you out on track with headlights so get over it. If you want to drive with headlights you can sign up to run the 12 Hours of Sebring, I'm sure you're more than qualified.
One suggestion though.
Stop beating up folks who are trying to give you honest advice. If you haven't figured it out yet just about everyone on this forum has more experience than you. If you don't like the advice they give you feel free to ignore it but honestly they're just trying to help. We all want new folks to get into this hobby and have a great time but most of us have seen guys show up at the track with no clue and a bad attitude. It looks like you're getting a head start in this department.
I'm sure by now you've gotten some PM's from folks that live near you and are willing to help out. If not then you just need to put your kart together and head out to the track. Getting on an internet forum and repeatedly asking why things aren't the way you think they should be won't get you anywhere if your goal is to drive karts. Maybe when you get out there you'll understand.
And yes, driving with a tinted shade at night will make it seem really dark, imagine how much fun it'll be when you increase your HP by a factor of 4

Its not that I am beating up any body, just look at some of the responses I get when I ask some valid questions...then you wonder why this happens . You think my questions are stupid, don't answer them. And if you do, don't be an ass, be CONSTRUCTIVE(below):
The reality is, many of the experienced people in this forum think they are above everyone, have stuck up attitudes and no patience.
Some feel empowered to be tough behind a computer screen - whatever works for them. Not everyone is like that, but many are...
I appreciate the help and advice. I hope I am wrong... I really do.
because it would suck to have invested into a hobby/sport full of "not so nice people" < let me just put it that way. |
