I will verify the 3 seconds next time I go out or reduce remove the splits for now and only try to set a start/finish line.

Track width etc. are ok, so is voltage as it is powered by an external battery and I confirmed it.

I don't want to sound arrogant and I hope I can get it to work as it is a great tool when it works, but I have been through these things many times before and as said AIM could not even fix it. They even came to the track with me.

If things have improved since then - great!

There are no towers, trees, buildings etc. The Infineon (Sim Raceway now) is on top of a hill with clear skies. I believe the number of sats were 12 while on track.

Yes I know GPS Manager I will try that and upload the files as well.

Andre,

This is my experience. It's good for the day but when you try to compare sessions from a previous test, the plots in the Measures Graph look time shifted. It does make sense that this could occur because it uses moving satellites but I really don't know for sure and haven't the time to call AIM and work it out.

The GPS is handy for ease of installation, no speed sensor or special mounting bracket and less wires. The GPS can also do real time splits but I found it difficult to set up while driving. I have an e-Box but don't use just because the GPS is good enough. Also, it's very convenient for quickly setting up data collection on a kart w/ the basic MyChron. Because GPS has speed, Race Studio can do split analysis and time difference which I find the most useful.

There was once an occasion where the GPS was in error by .25 seconds. I didn't know this until Saturday warm-up.

Bottomline - For me and most karters, should use GPS. For you, hmmm....

Thanks Larry - actually if I could get it to work "most of the time" it would probably be OK. I'm just not there yet...
You will want to use GPS Manager to set your systems up as well because it will allow you to have the same start/finish and sector points for both your kids.
That is excactly what we do with the 99 on race weekends to get gear/flex and driving line nailed down. It's an amazing tool and I hope you figure it out.

Matt,

How do you handle the 2 different track layouts and 2 different directions? Do you put down 4 different start/finish lines, 2 or only 1? I remember that was one of the things it was struggling with a while back.

If you put down more than one, it could not figure out which one to choose and if you only put down one it would not work in one direction.

OK that makes sense, I will try that. Matt would you mind emailing me your GPS Manager file? Then I know it should work. ase@viking-racing.com

You don't need to ring AIM as that is what happens due to the satellites position relative to you. It drifts over a number of hours and you cannot overlay data due to this problem. I would like to read AIM's take on this.

Chris
You are correct, the GPS data does shift some from test to test. If you select a lap from a couple of tests and look at it in the GPS window it's obvious it is shifted. The measures graph also can be shifted due to exactly where the start/finish line was picked up. The shift in the GPS window is what it is, however the measues graph can be greatly improved by zooming in on the S/F line area of the GPS window and seeing how far it's shifted. If you apply that distance to beacon shift one of the tests then the measures graph lines up.
