So has anyone purchased one of these new packages up in Seattle? They have put together a race series up there already. I'm really interested in one of these. Anybody have any video and sound of these?

I would think they would be very cool to drive. A little less HP than an ICC 125 but it must have great low end torque and a broad power band.

I rode a CRF250 recently. It has plenty of power. My first thought was "this motor should be on a kart". You still have to rev it to make power, but the powerband is definitley more broad, smooth, and predictable than a 125 2s. They do sound awesome. I'd be all for thumper karts Smile

I guess the one bad thing is the rebuilds are going to be more expensive with those motors, but the intervals are longer. It would be interesting to see how the cost would compare over time to a 2-stroke.

I wonder if a CRF150 with a non-shifter clutch would be a good 4-stroke alternative to something in the TaG ballpark.

I would also be interested in hearing about anone who actually bought one of these. I heard they are sealed, is there warranty like on Rotax?

I also heard they will be very expensive to rebuild and not be very reliable. This is all speculation I think o that's why I would like to hear frm an owner.

Also I would like to know the weight of the full package.

I don't see why 4 stroke rebuilds would be so much more expensive?

4 stroke in theory should be cheaper than 2 stroke. I still don't quite understand why the karting world has trouble keeping motors reliable. In the motocross world you can go years without a rebuild, and when they do need a top end, or full rebuild it is CHEAP.

I understand the higher rpm etc... But a 4 stroke shouldn't really be pushed that hard RPM wise. Most likely they would utilize the torque...

It has more parts. Add the rebuild of the head/valvetrain to the list of parts/labor. If it does go boom it destroys more parts. That's neither good or bad. Just a fact. Kart engines get worked way harder than MX engines. Kart engines are run at full throttle most of the time, MX engines see only short blips of full throttle.

I'm just guessing, but if someone went years without a rebuild that actually raced MX they would have a lot of mud on their goggles. Mr. Green

I come from racong for honda motocross canadas nation team if you went yeara without rebuilding a 250 or 450 youd be watching akot of other guys win we rebuilt motors every other race weekend when i was a privateer with no support a full rebuild could cost up to 3000 depending on the quility of parts you use oem parts are cheaper but dont hold up aswell as aftermarket parts 4 strokes can go longer between rebuilds but on a kart yoir always on the throttle so this may differ between bikes and karts

Periods are really helpful, this is now more apparent than before.

I just sold my new CRF 250X - last year and bought my first kart. In these parts we drop in top ends BETWEEN Motos - if you cant do a 2 strk top in 10 minutes you loose.... Nobodys rebuilding any thing with a cam chain and valves in the pits..... and if she lets go it aint cheap. Weight won't be a concearn - aluminum and magnesium everywhere - as for $$$ - BEND OVER. These guys make a Rotax look cheap.

I'm an old motocrosser turned karter - driving the two has NOTHING in common LOL - what a rough 1st year its been trying to learn about "momentum" staying off the brakes and keeping your R's up with no clutch to feather. Drop the 20 bucks a QT 2 stroke oil and the race fuel costs and the rebuilds quickly become irrelivent. The motor can hang with our style of driving - they rev and rev and rev and rev - whomever said you don't drive a motocross bike WFO aint never won a motocross race - they get flogged. Problem is - nothing smaller than a 250 is gonna work at all. there would have to be serious gearing limitations. The tree huggers will come for our beloved 2 strokes one day - they will.

Jerry
