Most everyone from the Northeast knows what happened to Mike Rivera....A couple of weeks ago he fell from a 30 foot roof and severely injured his wrist and ankle. They were able to rebuild his wrist BUT his ankle has been so bad that they have not been able to operate yet......
For those that don't know:
Mike has been instrumental in bringing shifter kart racing back to the Northeast. When he first started racing they were lucky to get 5 shifters to a club race. After a lot of hard work and an unbelievable attitude the NEShifter series that he started last year has over 42 pre confirmed entries for next weekend!!!
Mike is a self employed and obviously cannot work. Truth is, he will not be working for a long time and will have a lot of medical bills from this accident. He has a long and painful road to recovery ahead of him. When I first brought up the idea of people donating to help him out he was against it (he can be fairly stubborn sometimes), so we let it go. But as time goes on and we get a clearer vision of the road ahead, I felt it was something we NEEDED to do for him, even if he gets pissed off at us for doing it. He is not the kind of guy that will ever ask for help.
Bernard has set up a page that he will provide the link to...it will be on the NEShifter series website and KartingConnect website also. People will be able to donate via paypal, using their paypal account or credit card. I am hoping that all the people that Mike has touched or affected through racing will donate. Please remember, no matter what you can afford, big or small, everything will add up! A big thanks to Bernard for putting the page together. Thanks Guys, and keep Mike in your prayers!! _________________ STOCK HONDA SODI KART

Awesome news! In!
Also, can I donate the money I've 'won' from this years series? I'm guessing you guys cut a check at the season's end... can you just cut it for Mike? _________________ CKR/KZ

This would be a good time to start an organization for our karting family. I'm starting to put the feelers out on creating a non-profit to help those that we meet in karting that have had life altering circumstances.
Many of us race (or raced) on a very tight budget, but we saved our pennies to make it to the kart track, just to race or pound laps.
Why? Because we love it.
Mike has been calling our shop for years, and when he decided to start the ICC shifter class, I think I tried to sell him a stock Honda. Mike was persistent and gathered a group of guys. Somedays, I received calls from Mike, Ed, and Carlos. The class and series has been growing, and it was a true grass roots efforts.
I spoke to Reine this morning about contributing to this cause for Mike.
SwedeTech is onboard. For all engine work or parts that are purchased through us directly, Mention Mike Rivera.
Labor costs - 50% will be donated to a fund for Mike
Parts Costs - 10% will be donated to a fund for Mike
We will start this now and run until January 31, 2013. We will evaluate at that time and extend if needed.
Time for us to help those that truly need it. Just ask yourself, "If I am unable to work or provide income, what would I do?" _________________ 916 687 3980
