Again I'm new to this but that just doesn't make sense to me. If those that start in shifter get out because it's to much for them then they would step down to TAG instead of leaving karts altogether.

Maybe they aren't made out of money and aren't willing to invest in another over priced kart package after getting burned once.

Lack of backbone.. If I were to find the shifter too fast, I would then get a DD2. As a matter of fact, I will eventually get a DD2 NIB.

Do either of you guys have even a small idea why there are so many "like new" TAGs - DD2s and shifters for sale?

Think about it - even just for a moment.

Probably the very same reason there are lots of 100cc and 80cc and box stock that are like new for sale. Impulse buyers it's a factor in just about everything recreational. I have no doubt that some buy a kart that's over they're head and at some point relize that they just aren't willing to put in the time to learn how to drive it but this you can't handle it or learn it unless you start lower is a little over the top.

^ yeah Ive seen that style of driving. Like I say, it is all practice.
Also your shifter level must be nice and close to your wheel.

Well no one's ever done anything untill they do it. I've run a shifter several times not raced but run on a track. It certainly is a lot harder than it looks and it's easy to see that it will take a long time to master. But you know what if you can do it so can I your really not that special.

I seen people who cannot handle a 5.5hp or 9hp kart. I m not saying I will handle a 20 something shifter right of the bad. I plan to take baby steps with the driving..

Shocked

You are seriously underestimating the physical abuse a kart will put you through. A shifter is not 20 something, it's 40 something. A DD2 is 32hp. And on most tracks is running right with shifters. Even TAGs are insanely fast, ~30+hp. All will do 2+Gs in the corners and up to 2.5 under heavy braking.

But, you can have numbers thrown at you all day long and you still wont fully realize until you've felt it. Its gonna be more than you ever expected.

Good Luck. Although you will most likely need much more than luck.

^ no need to be a jerk (I'll keep it PG13) Go finish high school, get a college degree and come back to talk smack then. At that point I MAY take whatever you say into consideration.

The modern shifter really is an amazing amount of power. 30+ years ago our top class was a pair of MC101's those karts were fast but the shifter of today makes them look mild. The chassis design is very diffrent also we had no side pods and a loose fitting seat with little or nothing on the sides. We would slide around corners if you were turning right your wheels were actually pointed slightly left. So the forces were nothing like they are today it is physicaly demanding but it sure is a rush!!!

To point out the obvious Cesar, you can take your brand new shifter to any track in the US and get your ass kicked by a bunch of kids who haven't even started high school. If you work on this for a couple of years, you might get to the level where you can actually race with them.

Done with high school. Working on getting my A&P. College degrees are next to useless today.

I'm not being a jerk, im being realistic.

I just finished my own shifter kart (after 3 years of lower powered karts). I have only driven it once for about 30 seconds in my culdesac. I thought i knew what is was going to be like... then it hit the pipe in second gear, i grabbed third, and was at 45mph. All in about a second, but it seemed like 1/4 second. It's unreal.

Today was a good day after all this talk I finally got to drive a stock honda!!! Now I understand why they are popular it's a very cool setup to drive. This one had the power valve in tack which must be why the power band was so broad very good low end torque it pulled out of the turns really well. Not as powerfull as the Pavesi with the RPM up that seems to have a much narower powewr band and when you get out of it there isn't much there but when your running in that band it's like unleashing a wild animal. VERY COOL!!!!!
