Curiously, was anyone that ran Solo Nats running anything other than a 50mm rear axle? I was running a 1 3/8" (35mm), so I know that I was the exception.

Clements runs a 35 or 30. Nutpack are all 40's iirc. Lower's are 40.

I had or have a 40 on my ICC. SKM "C" or hard axle. with long 140MM hubs.

Now running a Medium axle with short hubs for our track.

Parking lots were always slick.

Track is grippy enough to push the front end on the hard axle.

Larry,
Is there a 50mm axle in your future? Or just a harder 40mm?

If I go 50, it'll be with an all new chassis. But I think the 40 is perfectly competitive.

I normally run the hardest axle you can buy. But I bent it 2 weeks before Nationals. The only replacement I could get was a medium. I bent that on the test course on Monday in Lincoln. Then I borrowed Lisa Garfield's medium and bent that on the East Course on Wednesday.

Moral of the story - don't hit cones, they bend axles.

Something I discovered after I bent an axle is shifter kart axles in the 50mm size are reenforcedunder the drive sprocket. I guess because the wall thickeness is less than the 40mm variety.
