Tony Kart help

A good racing friend of mine runs a Tony kart that is a shifter snd equipped with a TM k9.
The kart is loose and he has changed EVERYTHING trying to get rear grip and it doesn't matter what changes are made NOTHING shows as any difference. He's tried air pressure, caster, camber, toe, rear width, front width, new tires, old tires even different brand of tires. He's tried torsion bars in, out, flat and vertical, together and separate! Still nothing! He's beginning to get very discouraged and I'm afraid he might sell out if he cant find some rear grip! He doesn't race competively but wants to IF he can figure out this problem. He can actually use up a brand new set if MG yellows to where they are trash on a practice day at OGP!
Does anyone have any ideas that he hasn't tried or someone in our local area that might want to help the next time we hit the track?

The lack of response to changes that you describe can be caused by an incorrect seat position.

Has he tried moving the seat? That is by far the biggest change you can make to any kart setup. Moving the seat (and hence weight) will usually increase grip on that end.

Also, has your friend scaled the thing? If not, try to do that first and then move the seat to attain the manufacturers spec. As a general rule, 57% to 59% weight at the rear is a good starting point.

Be sure to do some searches on seat placement and/or scaling the kart. There's quite a number of things you have to check to make sure it's reasonably close.

Ace - give 2WildKarting a call, they are the authority as an OTK TonyKart Shop. I haven't tried this, but they may even accept collect calls from the east coast. Probably another guy who jumped into a high powered kart to soon. Just tell him to put a factory base line set up on it then drive it slower and he'll get lower lap times.

Funny story, I saw a guy at the track that would go way off into the dirt coming off of every turn no exaggeration dirt dust grass flying everywhere. Later in the pits I heard him bragging that he could take every corner flat out full throttle. Funny to watch but if you were driving anywhere close to him you would get hay fever from the ton of flora he dragged back on the track.

you're telling me your friend has practiced at OGP and they can't help him w/Tonykart issues Question

That place is OTK heaven, you can't swing a dead cat w/o hitting a Tonykart there.

First off I think this remark was uncalled for since you have no idea who the person is! Id personally like to see how YOU drive!

I came here asking for help to help another racer! If thats your way of helping, remind me never to race near or around you if its anything close to your helpfulness, it isnt much!

Now rather than say you saw a guy, why not just fess up that it was yourself!
We call people like you NDSOB's! Im sure you have some sense to figure that out!

I've seen other posts by you on these forums so I hope I'm correct in my assumption that you have a kart and have some driving experience. If so, I suggest you drive your friends kart and have him drive yours.
If you are happy with the way your kart handles and your friend says it is tail happy that is a clue to the problem. Also, if you jump in his kart and find yourself chasing the back end all over the track that will help confirm that there is a setup problem on his kart.
Cheap way to gather some useful data before doing anything that cost money or time.

And ONLY 40 years? I'm 60 and I started racing karts when I was 9. Do the math! Oh and I too have Four State championships won in Md., De., Va., and W.Va.

I've raced Summit Point, Daytona, Poconos, Roebling Road and tracks you've never heard of like Marlboro Raceway and many sprint tracks the out the NE like Batavia in NY and the winternats every year in Barnesville where I finished 5th to people like Kathy McCullough better known as Kathy Hartman wife of John Hartman. I've raced with Lake Speed, Ricky Rudd, and Mark Dismore!
Does all this make me special? Heck no! Does it make me a know it all? Nope! Thats why I'm asking for a little help rather than rude replies!
Yes I CAN drive a kart too but theres always room to learn unless your you!
