I have tank for my recently purchased kart. I have not idea what kind of fuel the previous owner ran and there is some still in it (very little). It smells like alcohol. I want to dump it out and clean the inside so when I put the normal the fuel I plan to use it all good.

If I wash the inside with dish soap and water and let it air dry for a few days, should it be okay?

Just pour it out and add your fuel.

You can use some plain fuel or pre-mix that you will use, pour some into the fuel tank, slosh it around a bunch, then pour out.

Do not use dish soap!!!

Don't worry about cross contamination just make sure there's no dried oil goop in the bottom that can break loose and clog things up. If the fuel line is hard as a rock get some new Tygon tubing.

HOT water and 409/Simple Green mix and shake and sit. Set in sun to dry. Cleans tanks very well. I do this every winter with the side benefit of making my garage smell cleaner.
