Ran our twin again today. We focused on chassis balance and tires. We tested 6" Superkart tires and 5" sticky tires. So much fun working chassis, the engines continue to impress and run like a top!
Very successful as we decided on the tire for the package and went out and lowered the outright track record that has stood for years. It was done by a 125cc shifter. We lowered it by 0.5 seconds. Even more impressive us that it was done on a green track and not at a major event with rubber down!
I think with more tuning we could go even faster:)
I will be posting up more video of today shortly. _________________ Riley Will

Looking at the video seems like it comes off the turns a little soft. I know it has those low lock up clutches but are the carbs real big or the pipe a little peaky or were you going easy to avoid wheel spin? Seems like it comes on the power 1/3 down the straight. Doesn't sound like a twin on the video must be tuned pretty good together.

I think "soft" is probably deceiving in this case.
That looks like a LOT of fun Riley!

Hey Riley, been following the build since the thread was started. Pretty neat idea and good going breaking the track record. Curious if you guys have any dyno graphs or can describe the power band with some #s compared to the shifter that had the track record before you.
Also was the previous record for the shifter laid down in a race where the track had grip?
Just trying to understand how much more power you are working with. Any plans on road racing it? |

Walt,
The bottom power off of the hairpin is soft compared to a shifter, but it takes about 20' off of that turn for it to plaster you like I've never felt before. I think it sounds the way it does (like a single) because the clutches are lock up types and not a typical high stall slider clutch type. It is deceiving on the video, John's driving makes it look easy. When the power valves open its like nitrous!
Pete,
It is awesome fun to drive. The part I have enjoyed is the building/engineering of it. Nobody does this stuff anymore and it's a shame:(. It does work really well and is very balanced.
Chris,
We are working with about 90-92hp. I haven't dynoed it together as we have an engine dyno now and sold the DynoJet dyno. We are using only 24mm ica carbs on it. 30mm KF1 carbs hit too hard!!! Our lap time was set on a green track. The previous was done by a 125cc kart under a 3 day event and great conditions.
It still revs past 15,800rpm and I want to lengthen the pipes again to gain more acceleration off of the slow turns and maybe limit the revs. The chassis and the engines are really tuneable. I think we still have another second left in it too.

Hope you guys have enjoyed this as much as me.... Got another few projects being finished now, but the weather is getting cold up here.... Spring will be fun;) _________________ Riley Will

Hey Riley if you can find some KZ or other onboard footage from the same track I can put a side-by-side video together for you..
For sure looks like the thing is just getting warmed up. _________________ Live in the midwest and have a TaG, Shifter, KPV, KT100, Animal\LO206, enduro or superkart?

I get that, but some others don't. Was that a novice driver in the KZ? _________________ Live in the midwest and have a TaG, Shifter, KPV, KT100, Animal\LO206, enduro or superkart?

I was going by his body language but yeah the 300's got a little poke alright. How about a laydown version for the long tracks _________________ Live in the midwest and have a TaG, Shifter, KPV, KT100, Animal\LO206, enduro or superkart?

Thanks for the info! Will you take it to any road courses? You should definitely go out to a big track and let this thing stretch a bit. Cool build. |
