|
|
I loaned a Tony Kart Krypton to a friend and he managed to shear two studs and pull off the last one from a rear wheel hub. I'm still waiting for the day that people would offer to fix or pay for stuff they break Not his fault though.
Anyway, I obviously have to replace the hub but I'm wondering if the wheel is useable. These OTK magnesium parts are not that cheap. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

No one is going to be able to answer that question with any degree of certainty. But if I were you I'd rather not be thinking about that wheel when I'm racing. _________________ A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on. -- Winston Churchill. |

Ok, I'll tell you.
NO.
Well, you can use it but the holes are pretty oval shaped and that alone will probably give you trouble. Nobody can thoroughly inspect parts from a photo but that's what I see right off the bat. Damaged parts will either fail or cause problems in tuning so for the cost of a set of wheels why mess around.
But....
If you're going to do your own work you will need to learn how to inspect stuff yourself. I would recommend getting a copy of Carroll Smiths "Prepare to Win" http://www.carrollsmith.com/books/purchase.html
If it's not the best 20 bucks you've ever spent on racing I'll buy it from you

| I had this happen to me when I first started racing. Sheared two studs off the hub and ob-longed the wheel. I kept using the wheel, just threw some washers on there and it worked fine for quite a while, until I was leading a race and I sheared two more studs off of a different hub, but the same wheel. Any way, long story short, I wouldn't use it anymore. After the second hub failure I threw the wheel away. |

I always do. That's why I'm asking if it is safe to use instead of just reinstalling a possibly unsafe wheel.
Thanks for all the answers. Anyone has a good MXP 210 wheel for sale? |

You can use it but you need to have some machine work done and use special washers. Any good machinist could fix that.

+1
I'd turn it into a hose reel, table lamp, or flower pot. |
