I know this has been brought up a 100 times and I will get beat up over it but I got to ask. Why is lets say the Yamaha Jr. class ages 12 to 15 weights different from track to track and series to series. I mean hears what I found:
305 MATC
310 Midstates
320 Route 66 Heavy
300 Route 66 light
300 RIGP
305 Man Cup light
320 Man Cup Heavy
Why cant it be even across the board everyehere?
And why dose the Yamaha light class get to strap on weight to race the Heavy class? Why can't it be if your going to race the heavy class make it where you must weigh the minim for the heavy class with no weight added. Giving the heavy drivers a chance in there own class. I know I know there are a lot of Heavy drivers that are way over the heavy class minim weight by 10 or more pounds to start off with. I know it's a huge loss if my driver is over weight even in a heavy class. So what Im trying to say is if a short and light driver adds weight to meet (lets say) 310 and scales right at say 311 or about there. A heavy driver still has no chance if hes over minim weigh by lets say 20 pounds or more. No problem here I have excepted my driver is 40 pounds to heavy for the Jr. class and has no chance to win. Just thought the heavy drivers would feel better racing against drivers there own weigh. _________________ St. louis Mo. |

Good questions Kent. The reason most weights vary from track to track is each track tends to cater to the people who race at a particular track. Here in N.California we have 7 or 8 tracks each with their own club. Most clubs will adopt IKF or WKA rules and weights for the classes. Yet there are differences from club to club. Cater to the clients and keep the gates open. _________________ Patrick Hubbell |

The part I don't understand is why the clubs do not encourage those heavy drivers to lose weight, be healthier. My problem is , the club decided to combine both classes, lite and heavy, so I had to strap 40 lbs, because I was competing with a lot heavier guys. Yet a year later, the club decided to add another class call "Senior Super Heavy".
Senior yamaha lite used to be 320
At yam heavy was 360
The super heavy averages 405!!!!!
No offense to any heavy driver, but not fair either for us thin guys! _________________ #11 TAG & TAG MASTERS

Patrick what I found around here is that as kids move up classes in karting the heavy kids find out they don't have a chance against a smaller light weight kid so sooner rather than later they quit karting. That was our case as well but we refused to let our weight disadvantage run us off knowing in a few years (next year now) we will meet the Yamaha Sr. weight at 365 So we finally make the min weight. (At some tracks) now there we go again some Yamaha Sr. tracks are different on there min. weight for that class as well. I have always said if your gona have a heavy class lets say 360 the kart and driver must weigh that with no weight added and you can't race the class by adding weight. Ya I know there will not be many entry's but truth is fat guys are not given the chance.
Again here is my issue that started my thinking. My boy races Yamaha Jr. weighs in at 365 in a 310 class. Yes we know we are beat by 55 pounds but he loves the sport and excepts the disadvantage. you know he is just a second off the kids that weigh 313? but if there was a class that just let him run with people his own weight I know 5 racers here alone that would race heck you could put heavy jr.s and Sr's at that weight together and they would still have fun.
Roberto with all due respect it's not the clubs worry to promote healthy drivers. _________________ St. louis Mo. |

Thanks for the posting. I was starting to think no one gave a crap. Bottom line is with so many rules to in force in karting this would be common sence to make it even every where and one less hassle. _________________ St. louis Mo. |
