Welcome one and all to the Michael Schumacher's Career Memorial Edition of the Formula One Podium Picker Challenge Presented by EKartingNews and some useless government bureaucrat. This week - the Japanese Grand Prix at the mighty Suzuka circuit, a true test of vehicle setup and driver skill. This week should be a really good race...in contrast to the declining skill of 'the chin' who really oughta take up painting.

Shamelessly stolen from Matteo at Vroom/Quelli...

Grazie per il tiro, voi ragazzi calci nel sedere. Forza!

Points from the Singapore race. Big congratulations to Jim Derrig and Mike Goebel for the perfect podium - the first ones this year! Great call guys...

Edit 1
Dono if anybody noticed that I started a week early... Smile In the immortal words of Rick Perry - 'oops'. Anyway, I feel a bit bad now for dogging MSC so harshly - didn't think things would turn out like this quite so quickly. But silly season nonsense being what it is, I'm glad that I have the chance to change my picks because I'd bet that HAM prolly ain't gonna give McLaren any gifts over the next five races.

Copied from the Mercedes AMG Petronas home page:
Michael has announced his retirement at the end of 2012 this afternoon here in Suzuka, thanking his family, friends and the team. On behalf of the team Michael, thank you for being with us over the past three years, we will miss you.

Okay, no luck for a repeat Supernats appearance since that's the same weekend as the USGP. Maybe next year?

I may decide to change this later, but for now I'm sticking with my Singapore picks:

1) Vettel
2) Hamilton
3) Alonso

Button
Alonso
Vettel

Kobayashi to revive his recent poor form with a top 5 at his home grand prix, with some overtaking moves like we've seen in the past from him.

His pass on Barrichello was especially balls-y and late. I dig it. Unfortunately haven't seen much of that this year from him. I think the tires are harder for him to conserve than the Bridgestones.

Just wanted to share w/ you F1 fans, my thoughts in regards to latest F1 news. First, I think that Hamilton made a mistake. McLaren is a team that is much committed to F1, I wouldln't be surprise to see Mercedes pull the F1 plug...leaving Hamilton looking for a new job. Second, I think it was a mistake for Mercedes to not stick w/ Schumi - this change in driver will not make Mercedes go faster. And I think it was pretty disrespectful way to to deal w/ a 7-time world champion. I hope. Massa goes to Sauber paid by Ferrari - do well and you can return in 2014. Meanwhile, Schumacher returns to Ferrari for one more shot (2013) and to end his career at Ferrari - making his Mercedes years pretty much irrelevant.
