Chassis Help!

Hey,

Im new to the world of karting. I just recently bought a CRG black star 2011. From research, i learned that there are 2 types of chassis, the 100cc and the 125cc. How can i know which chassis i got? are there any differences?

How does this chassis perform with a heavy (220lbs) driver?

I am planing on running Tag with a PRD engine. Any tips or suggestions.

I'm not a CRG guy but typically the difference is the 125cc chassis will have front brakes and attachment points for a shifter setup. There isn't usually a difference in tubing or anything.

Looking at their website (http://www.kartcrg.com/ingl/home_ingl.htm) it looks like the Black Star is a 30/32 so it should be perfect for TaG. You will be pretty heavy for a PRD but it will be a good start. You should cross the scales at about 410lbs, give or take). I think most PRD classes are about 350lbs minimum, probably about 380 for TaG Masters.

If you are planning to run Tag here in Florida might I recommend our Florida Karting Championship Series, we run a Tag Heavy Class and with a PRD your minimum weight would be 395,

Tag Senior PRD 350 lbs
Tag Masters PRD 370

We have a pretty good turnout thru the yr with an average of 10 racers per race and there's one I can say for sure is that these racers don't play, they come to race and I mean serious Twisted Evil

An average TaG kart weighs about 175-185 with no fuel. I can't say for sure about the Black Star but it will be right around there.

Thanks for all the replies.

So I think I have this figured out.

With my weight, I can run Tag Sr (international), PRD Sr (homestead series), and Tag Heavy (FKCS?)

I have one more question, how much is too much over the minimum weight? When will I start to feel a difference and be left behind? In other words, will there be thaaaat much difference between a person that clocks 360lbs on the scale and one that clocks 400lbs??

There are a few things you can do to lighten the kart also. Lighter weight components, equipment, remove unnecessary items, etc.

But the cheapest and best way is to do what you said, hit the gym. I would like to try a few races but I weigh about 260lbs. so I let my son do the driving!
