I have been running dun lops for years and would like to continue to but it has been increasingly hard to get them this season.

I am looking for 11.5 x6.00-6 tires for the rear of my kart and have not been able to find any. If anyone knows of some around please let me know. But I have been told by numerous shop there are no more around and they will not be getting any more in.

This takes me to the other question I have. Has any laydown guys been using other brands? I know Hoosiers have become popular and I tried a set of those and they were okay but seemed to wear out quick. Are there any other choices? I think Burris also has some 6 inch tires. I know sit-up guys use them but has anyone put those on a laydown?

Any info on other brands would be great.

When it comes to Dunlops, I always go to Russell Karting as the source. See what they say - they are the importer so should have the full story.

I should have put that I talked to Russell and that they said they do not have my size and do not think they will get it anytime soon.

Comet has Burris in my size but I am not sure I have ever seen them on a laydown. My be fine wanted to get feedback on someone that has used them vs something else.

What compound of Hoosier did you run? The softie R50's can wear quick on an abrasive surface, but the R60A's seem to hold up very well. Be sure to give your feedback to Adam Batton and the other guys at Hoosier they are very willing to listen.

Jeremy: I've been running Hoosiers for a while now on both laydown (Yamaha and Piston Port) and Animal sprint. Obviously not the horse power you're running, but in what I run, the R60 compound Hoosiers have been working and holding up very well. Definitely contact Adam Batton at Hoosier and he can steer you into what you need. abatton@hoosiertire.com He responds to email very quickly.

Not the size you were looking for, but I do have a pair of SL4 11x6.00/5 mounted up that I would sell. They were for a kart I don't run any more so I won't be using them.

I just ordered a pair of 5.5 X 6" RH2's from Comet this morning. If they don't have them they have not told me yet.

We have been using Hoosiers in the R60 compound on our B Stock since sometime last year and are very satisfied with the performance, and to the degree we have tested them, the longevity. We think the R60 lasts better than the 60A. Only reservation is that we have not used them on a very abrasive track.

I just heard from Jim Russell Jr. that they will not be making the 11.5x6.00-6 size anymore. There was not enough demand for them. So I will have to rethink my rear tire size.

The Hoosiers I used the R60 upfront and the R60a in the back. The one problem was that they didn't quite have the right size for my rears but I got something that was close. It made the overall circumference a little bigger which seemed to negatively effect acceleration for sure. But since I need to change my rear tire/rim size anyways that doesn't really matter as much.

The other problem was wear. I toasted a pair of front which were the harder compounds in 3 days of running. I usually get 2-3 weekends out of dunlops. Having said that it was well over 90 plus degrees 2 of those days down at VIR. I would defiantly give them another try and I don't remember who I talked to at Hoosier but they were extremely helpful and their track presence is really nice.

Where are you guys purchasing your Hoosier tires? I tried calling a couple of shops near me, and they don't stock them.

I doubt that very many if any Hoosier tire dealers will stock the kart specific tires. They can usually have them in their hands pretty quickly though. Contact Adam at Hoosier if you have problems with ordering them in advance through your local dealer. When I have ordered, they are usually there within a week.....especially since they typically have a delivery once a week during racing season for the local dirt oval racers. Part numbers are available on the Hoosier website. You will probably need them since most Hoosier dealers know little about kart racing tires until they start buying them for someone to get them into their database.

Hoosier has been working closely with asphalt sprint and RR kart racers for years now even though their sales may not be quite what they desire at their board meetings. Gotta love that kind of dedication to the sport and for me, it has indeed paid off....so to speak....all I do is pay to play....never won a cent.....but I've never gotten better support from anyone in the game outside of Adam and Hoosier.

Since you ran softer tires in the rear, you may have made the wear problem in the front worse than if you would have just run R60A or R60 all the way around. I run R60A in the 125 Shifter class as well as their superkart tires on our 250's and the wear and compound consistency through the tread life has been great for me. I see that they are not currently offering the 6" wide 6" rim size tire at this time. Maybe a wider rear tire and rim is an alternative or possibly 5" dia. wheels?
Also, one thing I learned early on at least with the superkart front tires is that I had to use 6" wide wheels or the tread would round or arc in the center thereby increasing the circumference as well as reduce contact patch since they designed the tire to be used with the wider rim....unfortunately, Burris decided not to sell the 6" wide wheel at the time due to low sales....so I just bought them from Edwards (the manufacturer) in Australia......problem solved.
Possibly Hoosier is working on that 6" wide 6" diameter rim size tire as we speak.....Give Adam a call and ask questions if you already haven't....he is always happy to help.
