Hello all,

I just took delivery of new 6" magnesium wheels. Aside from being lighter than our aluminum standards, they are also of the "low volume" design which helps keep your tire temps consistent. They come in black only. The fronts are only available in 6" width and the rears are standard 8". They are normal Ross Edwards offsets too.

I will post pics and comparable weights tomorrow.

Here is a picture of the new Low Volume Magnesium Wheels:

They are available in the 8" rear and 6" front.

Weights are:
Aluminum
8" Rear 2.05Lbs
6" Front 1.74Lbs
Mag
8" Rear 1.93Lbs
6" Front 1.53Lbs

Total difference in weight for a set of 4 wheels is 0.66Lbs. Not as much of a weight savings as I would have thought, but this was compared to the standard profile aluminum rim. The merit to the Mag wheel is the decreased air volume which will keep your pressures more consistent. The wheel will also be stiffer due to the % elongation/elasticity of the magnesium material vs aluminum.

Expect cost to be between $350-$400. I am waiting for confirmation on the price.

Riley,
Ross Edwards sent me 3 sets just before Laguna Seca in late June 2011 for testing.
We physically packed 12 rims into our suit cases from Sydney to LAX, 4 rims (a set) were given to Russell Anderson to take back to Europe to test.

The rims are slightly thicker, Ross told me he could still trim them down a little but needed good feedback on their strength first before trying to go lighter. BTW, who weighs their tires and then selects the brand which makes the lighter tire?

I didn't find any issue with these wheels, if only he made 9" inch wide rears cause I was struggling with some understeer at Laguna being quite sandy surface therefore I went back to known setup before making chassis changes. Quite often you may see pics of my kart with these black front rims and Alloy rear, this means I'm running magnesium on front and alloy on rear.

The main benefit is in the feel using the magnesieum wheel and consistency over long distance with low volume.
