I think so. the sealed part felt like it had more grip coming out of 2 and going into 3. mine were faster than the last couple of years on really old tires.

Dan posted a 1:09.468 I am no Afton expert but I think that has to be a new record. Smile

I'm not sure it was any better for 125's or 250's than it was in the spring. It hasn't been as good as it was in Sept. 06 when the entire surface was repaved but I don't think it was far off from then.....drafting group was MUCH bigger in 06.

Look here for 125 example:

However, using the RH side line on the back strait, it wasn't too bad at all last weekend. We didn't have handling dialed in by any stretch on 2 race old tires combined with rich jetting, and short gearing. I never pushed spillway or clubhouse since all I could picture in my mind was carbon fiber shards littering the outside of the track.....you all know I am fully capable of destroying a kart.....but not this time.
I was listed as Tom (dad) in the spring and did 109.6 in the same kart while loosing one cylinder 3/4's of the way down the strait with the same jetting and gear but I had new tires (same ones) then. With new Hoosiers last weekend I might have dipped into 1:08's as it was running better that it did in the spring. Maybe next year I'll give it a go.
I have gotten 1:09's in the CR250/Anderson (black kart) in the past as it handles FAR better but doesn't have the top end speed of the TZ250/P1 (red kart).

That being said, if a top driver with top equipment were there, 1:07's or better would be no problem at all.

Even so, I do think that 1:09.468 is the best time I have turned there but again, there are plenty (you will see some at HPT) that are MUCH quicker than I.

Had a great weekend thanks to the KART/MARRS friends.
See ya all again at HPT.

Impressive Dan...considering we were turning high 1:20's in the Yamaha can class. So... what's the average speed of a 1:09 at Afton?

1.8/69 mi/sec * 60 sec/min * 60 min/hr = 93.91 mi/hr average... aka FAST!!!!!!
