Put it on the hibachi until it stops smoking then knock the ash out.

I sell commercial cleaning chems so I submerge it in our liquid oven cleaner. I usually let it set in it for about 4 hours. Then use a maroon 3m scratch pad on the outside. I heard if you put trans fluid on it, it will burn into it and keep from rusting. I have never used tranny fluid but I have used WD 40 and it doesn't seem to do much. The next time I clean it I am going to try trans fluid.

I cleaned ours in vinegar in my ultrasonic cleaner and then coated in trans fluid when clean. The trans fluid gives it a great appearance, it almost looks like gun bluing.

WD40 won't work, as Mark said.

After you get the can/pipe clean. Coat it with trans fluid, then fire the kart and let it burn off. Then shut down the kart, wait a short bit then coat it again before the pipe cools. When you come in off the track, wipe it again with trans fluid while the pipe is still warm. After a few times, it'll look "blued" like Dan said. It also won't rust as easy, almost not at all. I'm not sure if the metal is sucking up the ATF, or if the burnt ATF is coating the pipe or whatever. But whatever it is, it works well.
