Just ballpark but it's about 30HP with 16K max rpm. A little peaky with the DS1, if you're on a tight sprint track you might want a vevey pipe.

Check the two stroke sec over at Bobs4 for info.

I would have said 25-28tops and that that I feel I'm being generous. Depending on how its been tuned it'll rev well past 18grand.

Thanks Walt and Jim!! The motor was given to me and I wanted to restore it. I have been wanting something faster that my piped Yamaha and a little more exotic and I heard they sound very different too. I was told 20hp was the max, good to hear that they are a bit more.

Not saying they won’t turn 18,000 RPM, but not with a clutch, and most likely not with that pipe.

I had a few of these engines in my day. To turn 18k, you need a vevey pipe. These engines are grunty due to their long stroke. In this set-up it will make ~24hp and will crush your yammie! Run it direct drive for the most fun. Keep adding gear until it pulls clean from the tightest turn. Set pipe length to 405mm from back side of header to the first weld on the Vevey pipe at the constant. Set the ignition up at 2.3mm btdc. Exhaust port at 176 degrees duration. Valve open timing at 135 degrees BTDC and close at 74 degrees ATDC. Squish should be 0.8-0.9mm with a +2 degree angle from the piston. Head volume should be 7.0-7.5 cc's measured to the bottom of the spark plug hole. Piston clearance 0.11-0.12mm. Ring gap at 0.25-0.35mm. Use an NGK 10 heat range plug too. Carb pop pressure at 9-10psi with a hold pressure 2-2.5psi less than the pop. On a Tilly HL317 carb start your needles at 1 turn and 15 minutes on both low and high.

Have fun!

Interesting, I always wondered how the valve timing compared to a model engine which is 145 BTDC, 60 ATDC for no exhaust pipe. I guess the longer duration is possible because of the pipe but that closing is still a bit later than a piped model engine which from memory is 160/70.
