| I was fortunate enough to catch a few of the finals of the Rotax Grand Nationals today on the Kart Racing Network live streaming. I also watched with amusement the Mini Max final where everyone and his brother were practically leaping out of their seat like it was filled with hot coals. And when I write leaping, I mean their cheeks were nearly as high as the back of the seat. As amusing as this was, I was ultimately waiting for one of these kids to make an immediate and unscheduled exit off the course. I think these kids would benefit watching the senior races and count the number of times the top guys hop in their seats to gain those precious 200rpm... JMHO |

| With the small engines like that the get something they call a "turbo boost" by doing that. You should have seen when the outlawed the seat hopping in Florida so the little kids started dropping the wheels off the track at the END of the long straightways to get the same effect. Talk about scary. |

| I just read both the threads and there is a lot of speculation on the matter. However there was a brief time in my life where I was racing go-peds.... Yes those motorized scooters. We had em hopped up running on alcohol and all kinds of different motors, yet in the end you would still see grown men hopping, and it for a fact helped get those tiny rpm's out of the bog and into the power band. Now that is a tiny little 30cc motor usually, with a full grown man on a scooter, but if the minimax guys are at all as bound up as those peds were, then it DEFINITELY makes a difference. Don't believe me? Try it on a ped or something that struggles with the weight. It wouldn't work in something that has a decent power to weight like a full size kart though. |

Did the engine stay in the power band (maintain higher RPM) once the tires touched the ground?

The tires never left the ground, we were simply jumping on the footboard/scooter its self. Infact they were so tuned that you couldnt even hit the "second" power band unless it was unweighted and allowed to go. Sometimes it took a couple jumps. It was really weird, it almost felt like a second gear. |

I have done a ton of go peds and they have turbo (I call warp or over rev). Some had 2 to 3 levels. My 100cc trail bike had turbo but usually blew up after a few of those. _________________ Doug Fleming

+1 my race ped had what seemed like 3 power bands. And each time it kicked in it was a crazy jolt, almost pulling the front wheel off the ground. Nuts for such a small machine! |
