This weekend is the fifth round of the WKA Manufacturers Cup Series with the running of the KartLift Nationals at the Concept Haulers Motor Speedway in Norway, Illinois. The championship chases in the 20 categories continues to heat up as the series hosts the penultimate round. The weather will be warm once again, but thankfully not into the triple-digits. And the possibility of some precipitation may throw a curve ball to all the competitors.
Watch this thread for the popular posting of the top-10 from each on-track session throughout the weekend as well as additional updates as the event unfolds.
A preview of this weekend's action will be published tomorrow morning. Be sure to follow the EKN Facebook and Twitter accounts for additional coverage not found anywhere else, including photos from Sean Buur of Go Racing Magazine and video clips of on-track and off-track action. _________________ David Cole

EKN Trackside: BREAKING NEWS
Junior driver Joel Jens has been excluded from all on-track events this weekend following an unsportsmanlike conduct during practice this morning. WKA originally penalized him to sit out practice for the day, however, the other driver involved submitted a protest for a harsher penalty. WKA officials then excluded him from the event and his membership will be reviewed by the Board of Trustees. We will keep you updated on this incident. _________________ David Cole

Can someone provide the facts of what happen with Jens?
And I guess I wouldn't mind a little editorializing if you're so inclined. _________________ Aluminos |

Obviously, I'd like to know what happen too, but I'm sure EKN doesn't want to speculate. They're just providing the facts as they know them. I was hoping someone else might be able to chime in with what they saw/know. _________________ Aluminos |

Unsportsmanlike conduct in practice? Competition must be pretty fierce!
Good luck to everyone! I planned on being there this weekend but backed out after getting my butt kicked last weekend! |

Not to let this be the story of the weekend, but here is what I heard from Jens and a few others.
There was contact between Wagner and Jens on the track which led to Jens spinning out and receiving some damage. An altercation at the scales followed which included "pushing" by Jens. There was some debate about how much "pushing" was involved, or how aggressive it was, but this was the basis for the penalty, or so I'm told. That's all I know. _________________ High Quality American Made kart stands. Available direct to you or through one of our many dealers.

Talking with both parties, the two drivers - Jens and Gresham Wagner - made contact in a corner and were tangled up. Wagner continued to keep his engine running while Jens got out of the kart, pulled the spark plug boot off Wagner's engine and pushed him back down into his seat. The CONDUCT rule in the WKA manual was the final ruling that states the penalty - disqualification, ejection from the event, and possible suspension.
Jens knows he was wrong in what he did, and will have to watch from the sidelines this weekend. _________________ David Cole
