|
|
I just recently bought and installed a Ribtect seat mounting kit. I've had serious issues with the standard conical washers damaging my drivers suit.
Before I purchased my Ribtect carbon fiber rib vest I was also having serious rib issues. In fact, I was ready to quit karting altogether but changing to a Ribtect carbon fiber seat & carbon fiber rib vest solved all of my rib issues. I can race a complete SKUSA Pro Tour weekend (Fri practice and Sat & Sun races) with no rib pain whatsoever (I race in S4 / Spec Honda). This kit will even improve upon my current setup in that it gives me just a little bit more room in my rib area of the seat.
- VERY high quality.
- VERY complete with all of the fasteners, nuts, washers, spacers, etc... you'll need for a complete installation for any kart with up to 2 seat struts per side. This includes a number of spacers for the seat bottom connection to the chassis.
- All of the fasteners are stainless so no rusting.
- M8 fasteners so you don't have to worry about mixing inch & metric fasteners on your kart.
- I simply removed my existing bolts and replaced them one by one.
- I used the thin 2mm thick plastic washers for the seat strut and seat bottom connections to help allow the seat to "float" just a little (you can see them in the top picture). I used the plastic washer between a steel fender washer and the seat so I still comply with the SKUSA rule:
20.2.4.7. Seat Washers
20.2.4.7.1. Any attachment point from the chassis to the seat or seat strut to a seat will require a minimum of one 35 mm diameter aluminum or steel backing washer per fastener to eliminate potential break through.
- I didn't use any of the plastic washers for the hip area seat to chassis connection as IMO I want a solid connection there as that's where the most weight is focused.
p.s. - Don't believe that the Ribtect seat is too stiff and will mess up your chassis setup. Look at the picture immediately below and notice the "cutout" area of the seat back for your spine. That also serves a dual purpose in that it make the seat easier to flex. Also, as in any seat, installation is crucial in many ways especially in that it's not preloaded with any installation stress from being forced into position at any of the attachment points.

Those look neat Ken
I was thinking about ordering a set of those for my son's kart
1 thing though KEN, I think you should drill another hole in that seat, you know, in case you have to race in the RAIN,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, _________________ jlgracing

Hahahah, yeah I know, my seat looks like swiss cheese!!! The holes in the bottom of the seat are for rain. Most of the other holes are from moving the seat around. But I'll claim that they help the seat flex even more!!! _________________ Ken Schilling

+1 on the Ribtect seat and fastners!! The first race of the Texas Prokart Challenge I got a little over zealous in the friday practice sessions and my ribs were so sore I didn't think I could continue. Robby was there racing and I told him about the issue I was having and he offerd to bring a seat Saturday morning. We got it installed, went to qualify and was amazed that I felt no pain!! |

you would think seat manufactures would come up with a plug kit you could glue into those unused holes.

Robby:
I bought two of these kits and had one installed on my kart for last weekends SKUSA event. Tons of rubber down, lots of high speed corners and NO pain from bolts and such. I love these for form and function, they look great and work even better. _________________ Brian McHattie

Glass cloth and plain glue to plug a hole? I was thinking of a molded fiberglass 5/16ths plug with a thin cap on it.
