Am I the only one that thinks the drivers penalties have gotten a little over the top?

No, that 20 second penalty was crap. Vettel gained what, 2 seconds MAX by staying outside Button and running off the track? I dont think there should have been any penalty. Button did not leave him any room to re enter. What was he supposed to do, slow and wait for Button to go by, then re enter?

Vettel was very quicker at the time than Button. I think these rules from the FIA are ridiculous and this penalty was not justified.

Didn't Mansell make the same type of move at Spa ?

I think the helicopter camera shot told the story. Button had no grip and Vettel's line was WAY longer and on a bad surface. In equal cars, Button would have come out ahead. Once again, Ferrari International Assistance saves the day - but for a different benefactor this time.

Ross Bentley has some cool thoughts on his Facebook page about this... Look for 'Driver Coach' if you don't already keep up with him.

The stewards couldn't get anything to stick concerning the ECU/Mapping 'discussion' that morning; so when this 'opportunity' showed itself... Rolling Eyes

I agree with the helicopter shot analysis...Button's tire tracks showed how little grip he had.

If Vettel had held his line alongside Button, the McLaren would have slid into him. And didn't they just 'clarify' the rules that if you get a wheel alongside, you must be given room? Why wasn't Button penalized for violating that?

The racing sure is better this year, but the 'inconsistency' of the FiA is the same as always. Sad
