Good day, karting enthusiasts!

The third annual Superkarts! USA SummerNationals is now upon us, as a field of close to 200 racers is expected to invade Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah this weekend. This is the second round of the 2012 SKUSA Pro Tour and the fight for the championships in the eight categories will be heating up for sure. The #1 plates and a spot in the 2013 SKUSA Circle of Champions will be part of the prize package, as all eight Pro Tour champions will be fully supported (entry, tires, fuel and oil) on the 2013 Pro Tour, courtesy of SKUSA.

EKN is back this weekend with our popular EKN Live program, which is headlined by our live streaming audio broadcast of the official sessions, beginning with the final round of practice on Friday. We'll have a pre-race show on Friday once the action is done, as I will be joined by David Cole in looking at the drivers we expect to run for the race wins this weekend. David will also be posting the immediate results to this official discussion thread, as well as our Facebook and Twitter feeds for those who may be away from their computers. As always, we do what we can to keep our readership up to speed on everything happening in the karting community.

To enjoy this coverage, just head to www.ekartingnews.com/live to tune in.

We'd like to take the time to thank our current broadcast sponsors for their support of our efforts, including Kartsport North America, Rolison Performance Group, Cortney Concepts and our newest partner, Frenotec, the exclusive US distributor of USAG tools.

If anyone wishes to gain additional information from trackside or the paddock, simply post your questions here and we'll do what we can to track down the answers.

We hope that you all enjoy our EKN Live coverage of the 2012 Superkarts! USA SummerNationals.

I like that you include chassis in your write-ups, can you include engine too (where it makes sense, like TAG)?

I will have live timing up and running by 1pm on Friday. That is when transponders are mandatory during practice.

We had a great time tonight at the inaugural 'SummerNationals 100', a 100-lap team endurance race in MMP's rental kart fleet. The action was heated, there was great racing throughout the event, and one of the squad's from Diede Racing eventually scored the win. It was just cool to have everyone out on the pit lane having fun and going at it.

Personally, David and I had a blast, and it was good for us to get a chance to check out the track from the seat. I'm sure it will help with the live audio broadcast, as I now have much more knowledge of the track and the specific corners. I think the layout is going to be fast and pretty racy, but it remains to be seen where the primary passing areas will be.

I just want to take the time to thank all the MMP staff for organizing this race. It was just a straight-up blast. We'll never complain about being able to get behind the wheel. And I'll give David props, during our first stints, I had him by a couple tenths. He jumped in for a second one, and even though our kart pick was a bit of a dog, he managed to pip me by two tenths. Nice run, DC!

EKN Trackside Live - Friday Practice

The track is now hot here at Miller Motorsports Park, as practice has begun for the third annual SKUSA SummerNationals. The paddock is buzzing here as the excitement over the event is high. People are loving the professional feel of the garages and the facility itself is flat-out impressive. The level of competition is the highest its ever been and the racing is expected to be strong. The current entry count is 190 entries from 189 drivers, as only one driver is doing double duty. Carter Williams will be running both S5 and TaG Junior. This represents the largest Pro Tour race in the three-year history of the series, not counting the SuperNationals, of course.

We'll be beginning our live broadcast this afternoon for the final round of practice.

EKN Trackside Live - One-on-One Interview

If you haven't had a chance to listen to the interview that I taped with Tom Kutscher earlier this week, it's definitely worth the time, especially if you're a SKUSA racer. We discussed SKUSA's SummerNationals, the growth of their regional program, the possibility of a large event in the Eastern half of the country in 2013 and, of course, the SuperNationals and the Priority Entry Program that is rewarding SKUSA racers will reserved entry until August 31.

It's a solid interview. Click here to have a listen:
