|
|
I have an opportunity to pick up an 2012 Black Star and currently run a 2008 CRG RR shifter chassis with the front brakes removed.
Engine: HPV 3(will switch to 4 eventually)
Tires: Bridgestone YKC/YLC tires.)
Abit about myself:
I have one year of karting experience and weigh 166 lbs(probably 175 with all the equipment and helmet).
I am beginning to be able to keep up with the faster guys in my group but nowhere as consistent or skilled and make mistakes under pressure. They are running Birel RY30 and RY31 chassis.
I have been told that a softer chassis might work better due to my weight but is it good enough a reason for me to spend almost $4000 on a new chassis? |

Not claiming to be an expert on the subject but I would speculate that if you are staying with HPV/KPV engine, the Black Star might be better. That said, however, I would recommend you keep the money in the bank until you are making very few mistakes and not getting pressured into mistakes as well. Get the new chassis when you are faster and a bit more experienced to sort it out. _________________ Mutagaana |

I have decided to stick with the road rebel.
Thank you for the advice.
Please do keep the advise coming as I still do plan on getting a newer chassis down the road. |

| i moved to a RY30 and do appreciate the softer chassis, particularly with the HPV engine range. tuning is much more receptive. you can make the kart stiffer/harder, but more selectively, from seat to axle to hubs, floortray and more.... it's much harder to tune a stiff chassis. the HPV is not suited to a 32 chassis, definitely not, i would look at a 30. we have very good results, not even a 31. |

| With KPV I would suggest a KT1 CRG. The 2012 Blackstar will have alot of grip for that motor |

since you have the RR. put a soft axle take the seat struts off and dial in a neutral setting to the front...like a 2/2. get the softest seat you can find. you will be alright with the RR. wide stance up front...full 55 inches in back.
seat about 8.5 inches from the axle to the seat. and i am assuming you have a 50mm set up. the axle would be an S20 or S25. short hubs...make sure the rear bumper is loose...so zip tie it or safety wire it so it doesnt slip off.
you are at the most soft end with a RR to make it work,,,but it will work. where as with the black star you would be in a more middle stiffness set up...
i would have a t4 with the black star and my seat at 9.5 and add seat struts and play with 2 or 1 on each side and hub length. i would have some more camber dialed in on a good track day of grip....
and you might dial more camber in with the RR..but what i gave you is where i would start. you might also try the seat further angled back if you still need to loosen up the rear
just my opinion |
