AJ Allmendinger suspended from NASCAR competition for failed drug test. Sam Hornish will replace him for tonight. This can't be good for him with his one year contract.

No, it cannot be good for him at all. Hopefully it's nothing.

Obviously no announcement yet on what he tested positive for. Maybe it's just a prescription drug that he didn't get NASCAR approval for, or something like that. Time will tell.
Word is that Sam Hornish is in Charlotte waiting for the plane to Daytona (Approx. 2 hours before the green flag). And the car was already on the grid and had to be pushed back to the garage for a seat change, which is happening now.

I have been subject to random drug testing since it was invented. They don't detect "drugs". they detect the after images of what your body does with drugs. Hopefully, he's been eating 3 - 4 poppy seed bagels a day for a while, or as earlier mentioned, a presciption.

Not sure I believe this. However, a true false positive is very rare.

Bagel That's good one, you would have to buy 20lb bag of poppy seeds and then you just just mite show a little color on a test. When they run pee through a gas cromo burn test. There is no question as to what they are looking at. NASCAR NHRA NBA NHL NFL and so on, All these Pro's have a lot to lose, on and off the playing field . And in the job world they are even less under standing about these tests. My wife went for job opening, asked to give a sample for pee test. She doesn't drink or do drugs, couldn't produce enough pee< sorry you fail drug test no job!! . Heck the only thing she drinks Is water and milk. It's a tuff world and guy's like AJ / Mayfield / B-Bonds / and the rest are given a chance to ride above the rest and blow it. As the song says, I DID A LITTLE AND LITTLE BECAME A LOT MORE. And one of the biggest killers in this country is legal >Alcohol<. More people die from this than any drug.

Trying not to pass any judgement since nobody knows what he tested positive for. NASCAR I think has a lot of bans even on prescription and over the counter type drugs since its drivers are participating at high speeds and put people at high risk. The one bad thing is that he did get a DWI a couple years back. That doesn't do him any good from a media/public relations standpoint right now.

Unless something has changed, NASCAR has a list of banned substances they test for. If you test positive for one of those substances that's all they say about it, period. I think the Mayfield substance violation was leaked to the press or came out in the lawsuit but as far as I know NASCAR never said publicly what was used.
BTW, quite a few of the teams in the different series do in house testing on their own as a condition of employment.

What happened to "inocent until PROVEN guilty!" Everyone is quick to throw someone under the bus before ALL of the facts are in. Don't forget, he is one of the karting community and we should just wait until a JUDGE and JURY convict him....

I like AJ and I hope this is a case of a false positive, or some other legitimate explanation. I would like to see him back in the 22 car next year. I think he has the potential to win a race this year and probably at least one next year in it. People forget that it takes time to mesh with a new team and his results have been pretty good for his first year in that car.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that this works out. If it does end up that he was guilty then hopefully this is a wake-up call and he can fix it.

when you were using terms like color and gas cromo test I thought you had a clue.

There are shy bladder procedures to rehydrate if you cannot produce a sample as well. up to 4 hours. This is a pretty recent procedure though.

as for AJ I was hoping for this reaction, just expected it to happen sooner. I'm sure he has to be guarded for obvious reasons though. Seems like the thing to do is lawyer up now, even for the innocent.

I hope it works out. His statement is convincing to me.
