Please don't take this as a knock on your driving ability but...
Find yourself an experienced driver that is willing to coach you for a day. It might cost you a couple of hundred dollars but it will be the cheapest 'time' you can get from the stopwatch. Look for a kart school in your area. I don't care how much experience you have in other forms of motorsports, a kart is a whole different animal and requires different driving styles. Most coaches will also help you out with some basic adjustments too. You could spend days on the track by yourself and not gain as much as you would with one afternoon with a good coach. _________________ Blaise Haynes

Matt, you're practicing at OGP and you can't ask someone there for help You can't swing a DEAD CAT without hitting a TK at that track, they'll fix you up if you go ask over at the office _________________ jlgracing

Thanks for the input guys, I realize there's a lot to do in the driving department since I've only had it out twice now, so no worries about me taking offense. I've done DE's and know that the "know it all" type guy is the least popular at the track so I try to listen as much as possible.
TJ, I understand what you're saying about it feeling a little "free" as there were times when it would slide through the corner which would allow me to keep up more speed than if I kept it planted. I also know I was looking back a lot, I was trying to avoid someone coming up along side of me and me turning into them, as well as not wanting to get in the way of the OGP guys Dan, I have been told by multiple people to do that and it just so happens that OGP offers a course where they also teach you some setup, so I think once I recover from the initial investment of the sport, I'm going to do that. Jeff, I know what you mean, I had them give the kart the once over the first day and they were super helpful when a couple misc. bolts rattled loose and I didn't have any spares.
I want to say thanks to you guys for the input, I think one thing I have to come to terms with is the openness and friendliness of people in karting. For some reason I'm used to people being more secretive, but it seems people in this sport can be very open and helpful (granted I don't ask for minute details of their setup ). |

Don't forget Matt you can get some practice time down at the Andersen track also, there some good guys down there and you could come over to Orlando Kart Center for some more and different seat time, _________________ jlgracing

| I plan on hitting Andersen next, it's much closer so the increase in cost to practice is offset. After that, I think I'm going to start doing the local series at OGP and hopefully sometime in the future enter into some FKCS races. Baby steps right now though! I'm enjoying learning about the kart and finding excuses to go out in the garage and wrench and tinker with it. |
