I'm making another run at the design. I am most interested to hear from Netscape users to make sure everything looks reasonably in place.
Let me know, thanks!

The left side bar is too wide. The one with the EKN HOME button. I have to scroll right for all the forum messages. |

forumtiledownshad.gif is 1000 pixels wide, forcing the title banner to center in it's cell since no alignment charactoristics are assigned to it.
The top banner is 820 pixels wide, so it's going to force a side scroll with 800x600 resolution anyway. Both need to be resized to the target browser width minus the width of the vertical scroll bar in order to keep the bottom scroll bar off.

Bob,
This is one of a few areas I need to hone. My intention is to have the top banner center itself depending on the resolution, but it's not doing it correctly. Now that you mention the forumtiledownshad.gif being 1000 pixels wide, maybe that's the problem? I should also adjust the banner to be less than 800 pixels - so many things going on, some things get by me.
The other curious problem I'm having is the background for the top banner (the asphalt/tire rubber looking stuff) won't show in that table cell in IE but will in Netscape. Any suggestions out there?
The left section will remain as wide as it is, but I will try to optimize the rest of the page to be as workable as possible.

Glenn, looks nice and centered on my 800 X 600 IE and Netscape 4.73! No scrolling
Type is still broken up on Netscape.
Is this happening on anyone's CRT monitor with Netscape??

Tom,
I removed the horizontal shadow image below the banner, which was restricting the banner from moving to size the various resolutions.
In Navigator 4.7, the only thing I see is the table widths for the forums aren't quite right, but it still works.
Still don't have a resolution for the loss of the background in the banner on IE.

Glenn, ahhhh, the tables are fine in Netscape 4.73!
Now the grey background is still very grainy (I am on a laptop-type screen so I can't speak for a CRT monitor), unlike the smooth grey on IE 5.0. This would be OK, except for the fact that the type on that background still breaks up and is very hard to read, the orangish-brown type even more so.
Something I never noticed before but on IE and Netscape, the very top banner which says "ekartingnews.com Discussion Forums" reads "Discus.. foru.." and forces one to scroll to the right to see it all. My display is set at 800 X 600. There is nothing else on the page besides that banner that causes me to have to scroll to the right.

Glenn,
I'm emailing you some code and a 1x1 transparent gif that will let you put the shadow back in. It looks much nicer with the shadow below the header. |

Glenn, type is now fine in Netscape 4.73. Don't know about your banner issues. Looks like Bob does! I do know that problems can arise in Netscape from differently configured tables touching vertically; they seem to like a small amount of space between them.
