| "Bird" is British-English for "Chick" (as in young woman), and my friends called me it 'cos I'm the only bird in a gang of guys and it's sort of stuck. I have a tshirt with it on as well! |

M-A,
We all KNOW what "bird" means. And I know what a "flat" is and even what a "tram" is. I even have a English/American dictionary! |

Are we just kidding ourselves here? What's to stop someone from making up a screen name that sounds like a real name (John Smith) or, for that matter, creating an entirly false bio. There are plenty of legitiment reasons to remain anonomus. If you don't think so then I hope you never have to go through the hell of having a stalker or someone who steals your identity. If someone wants to remain anonomus I think it's ok as long as they behave themselves and, if they don't, I'm sure they'll be dealt with the same way no matter what their name is. I understand your point that requiring real names will intimadate most people into submission and scare away most of the lunatics so I guess it's worth the risk of exposing yourself a little. My point is that if John Smith gets kicked off, he'll just come back as John Doe so what does it matter what name you use. It's so easy to just create yourself over and over again do you really know who you're talking to?

| Jimmy, maybe I'm being naive but how on earth is someone going to be able to stalk someone using the information we have to give out on here, ie names? None of us have to say where we live or use anything other than a Hotmail address. |

I still think we need to ad credentials in our profiles. Put it as voulentary, those who wish to fill it out can.
Alot of the names I see on here are not the real names of the poster. So a e-mail address check would help weed out some people.

Jeff, an example of how posts can degrade without real names is the post on "Why does a chassis wear out?"
"T-Man" is mentioning some "less grade karts" but without knowing who he is, how can we verify the source of this possibly incorrect information.
This is what we are talking about on this thread, about hiding behind a false identity.
I agree with Darren re: an e-mail address check would help weed out some people.
Most by far on this forum don't seem to have a need to hide.

Jeff,
Yes, using one's real name is a rule of the forums. We are sending emails to the people who have overlooked that requirement.

| Mary Ann, You stick out like a rose in a thorn bush on this web site. Call me paranoid but, how hard would it be to find a girl named Mary that drives karts and lives in Hertfordshire? Do we have to show our city and state on every post? Isn't it enough that the moderators know who we are in case of legal issues. |

I don't drive karts, I'm a team manager to a couple of Rotax drivers and a meeting official
I put my real county and country on here because anyone in the UK who is likely to get teed off with me already knows where I am from my brother's listing in the event programmes. The likelyhood of an American or Australian deciding to stalk me is to me so slim that it isn't worth worrying about. Even if I was worried I could just put down something vague like UK or Europe |

I am with Darren on the credentials on the profile.
Many newcomers come here to find a good source of info... and it would be nice to be able to allow someone the opportunity to check one's background to see if they are a reliable source... granted that dosn't matter, but on another side.. it would be able to give people the chance to discuss with someone specific questions regarding their field... more chance for "expert" advice.
