I still see many persons not using their real name. Can we (as Members) remind them via e-mail to use theie real name or do we leave that up to the moderators.

Hmmm, that's a good one. I'm not sure. We definitely want people to use their real names, yet I'm not sure I want to inundate new members with emails.

Why don't users who see a name email us their name and member number and we'll take care of it? Thanks!

Okay, I gotta work on the IKF Grand Nationals report...

I think that while you don't want to drive new folks off of the site, you certainly don't want others to take advantage of the situation to promote their own sites, or overtly try to sell products. That's what banner ads are for.... ;-)

In that regard, TKWS was superb, and in my not so humble opinon, that is what made it the resource it was (I just checked, it's gone kids.....The King is dead, long live the King.....)

There are a couple of different types of people that try that. One, is the innocent that is used to AOL type screen names, and means no malice. Usually, when you ask, these people are more than willing to use their real names, assured they won't be spammed to death in the process.

The other, is like that knucklehead earlier today, that found it fit to pimp his own message board, though they had no posts. If I've learned one thing on the Web, it's to never underestimate the tenacity of some to hawk their own wares, regardless of the ramifacations.

It's for you to decide, but how I do it is send the newbie a polite letter explaining the rules, as the moderator or administrator. I ask that forum users not try to moderate the board. We pay people for that. We leave the post if not too bad.

For the overt marketers, zap the post PDQ, and send a polite, but firm note stating the policies of the site, and perhaps the current banner rate. The second time, we use software to filter them, and make sure their ISP gets at least one complaint. Usually, it doesn't come to this, they leave or conform on their own to the rules. Some even buy banners.

You're off to a pretty good start, interesting to see how it shakes out.

Dave
