I love my radiator, it's a work of art. Really well built and keeps my engine nice and cool.

The radiator is part of the problem. You need to look at the whole system. I can cool a cr 125 on a 100 degree day at 100 degree water temp on a mod motor with jetting on the edge of deto. the radiator i use is a 14x10. It takes me about 10 hours to mod the whole system to work like it should. I have a cooling system dyno that i test all the parts on.

Would like to see this set up.

Me too. 100 water temp on a 100 degree day is physically impossible.

Oh, silly me......when he was talking about a 14 x 10 radiator, I assumed he was speaking in measurements of inches, not feet!

On a more serious note, will a stock or mod moto perform optimally at 100 degrees? I thought I read somewhere that 130 was the optimum temp for them.

Yes, 130 to 140 is good. I like to warm up my cr125 just as I did my icc engine, run thru the gears and heat up all the other bits. Trans oil. JMO.

Guys why is it that the kart radiators are so expensive?
From what I am gathering, the bigger the better, but also the heaviest.

I need an inexpensive option radiator to get my kart going. Someone suggested to me to buy a car radiator and have it cut to size similar to what someone else did here. But then I wonder if by the time I am done and have paid the radiator welders if I will be up to the 200-300 dollar range.

My kart is a Stock Honda, what radiator would you guys recommend in the 200 dollar range if any. If I am out of budget please tell me so, I really do not know I am looking for.

I found this:

http://sharkshifter.com/zc/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_194&products_id=1257

I guess the question is, what is it what makes X more expensive then Y. I would like to make an educated purchase.

That looks like a decent rad for the price.

I also found Ellis Racing... seem like a great product also.
I am understanding a little more about rads the past hour or so ive been reading.

The part that I want to understand is, the width of the radiator is limited by the space I have between my seat and the inside of the side fairing? while the height can really be what I want as well at the thickness which is going to be dictated by the cores; 1 verus 2.

Get that Sharkshifter rad, its cheapest, excellent quality and works perfect if your running Stock Honda. Been using for 3 years without a problem. Very easy to mount with the mount kit provided to many different karts and the inlet/outlet are pointing in the right direction. There is around 7 of us using this rad in Australia and we have run them from 45 - 100 degF days without any problems in Stock Honda. In fact we have a thermostat to help us get temp in winter.

thank you for the pictures guys.

Having the fittings pointing in the right angles does make sense. Now the idea of this purpose built radiators is starting to make sense.

I wish the elisrad had a straight top and not a chamfered one (aesthetically)

what is the size of that Red Steve?

16x8. www.ellisracingproducts.com/

The shark shifter rad hose connections are better with the 90 deg. The tire is a little close with the Ellis design. Talked to John about this problem at Ellis and he could make one with 90 deg connections if you want. To late for me though. Crying or Very sad Mount the rad standing stright up though, it will be most effencent on very hot days. If you have to use tape on cooler days try and lay it back vs stright up with tape. JMO.
