| Has anyone had any problems with the nikasil coming off after only a few hours? I bought a new one had it blueprinted and ran it for 4 hours 27 minutes and the nikasill was coming off. So after 4 hours I need a new cylinder, piston and a complete rebuild. I bought a new engine so I would not have these problems and still had them anyway. Everyone be cautious buying new K80s. |

It happens. A lot less than before. Did someone cut the top off? If not done properly that can start it. _________________ Doug Fleming

| We had it happen with a bunch of motors using Silkolene oil. It was spec for our series and cost a lot of people new cylinders. |

Do yourself a favor and get out while you can. Get your self a more modern engine that will give you less grief and years of good racing use.
IE
Rotax (Nikasil, but water cooled 21st century technology.
KPV (Cast iron bore with many sizes newer than Comer 80 technology _________________ Innovative Karting/ Intrepid karts

And miss some of the best Cadet racing. JMHO
$1750.00 brand new blueprinted. Good for 8-10 races. $490.00 total for complete rebuild including all parts, labor and dyno.
Professionally built by the right Person it is no different than and other engine. The all have issues. Name one that doesn't. Rotax won't be on that list. How many KPV 1's do people go thru before They find a "good one".

1st, 2nd, 4th, 10th, all paid $1750.00 for a national caliber engine.

That race is the one that it starting going in. I don't know if the top was cut. The shop that built it has several motors that run well in Man Cup. I hope that did it correctly. The cylinder has the nikacil coming off in several spots down low not even close to an edge. |

You can send it to US Chrome and they re plate for about $150.00.
I had brand new one a few years ago that was stupid fast on the dyno. At a Stars race I put it on the track in practice on Timmy Bauchman's kart. He pulled out of the pits about 15th. Passed them all in 4 laps, then by lap 8 they all had passed him back. Pulled the head off and it lost about 1 third of the plating. _________________ Doug Fleming

So, Curtis, I knew you would crowbar the Rotax into this discussion. KPV is too fast in its current configuration for 7-9 year olds to learn on.... What is your suggestion, Micromax? lol Bro, I love you man but we are heading to your shop now to stage an intervention. Obviously you have been drinkin some of your own supply of that Phoenix Koolaid. I am on my way over now!! _________________ Stewart Willis |

| If a KPV is too fast, go back to kid karts, practice more, or get a baseball glove. Get Ikf to put the Can back on the Yamaha and the problem is solved. |

| I got my parts from Grand Products this week and the motor is put back together. We will race tomorrow and see if it is as good as before. Thanks to Grand Products for taking care of this problem. |
