Hey Racers,
MKC has secured event dates at Waterford Hills and M.I.S. this season.
These are a couple of "can't miss" events, especially M.I.S..
Waterford Hills, at 1.5 miles in length, is pretty much a repeat of last year, and will be held August 18 & 19.
We run a 2 heat daily format in this 2 day event, even though the track could be considered a road race track. It will accommodate Sprint, Sprint Enduro, and Enduro Chassis classes so hence the reason for the modified format. Rules parallel nationally recognized formats, but are not strictly Road Race or Sprint.
One thing to remember. At Waterford Hills, vehicle noise levels are strictly enforced at 74DBA which means both induction silencers and exhaust silencers are a must. For most newer karts, this is a done deal. The equipment is part of a standard setup. Vintage classes are typically too loud, so are not offered.
Check the schedule. Pretty simple. Pretty straight forward.
M.I.S., at 2 miles in length, is newly repaved, including the infield road course, and will be held September 29 & 30.
This 2 day race format is strictly Road Race.
Information for M.I.S., which we feel will be a blockbuster event, is much more comprehensive, being that no one has raced on the infield road course in many years.
Make sure you look at the bird's eye view of the layout and then go to the Pictures section of our web site http://michkartclub.com/photos/?album=4&gallery=20 and take the M.I.S. Track View slideshow tour. It will show you what to expect on your first lap. There are also layout diagrams for Garage Rentals, standard, and preferred parking, in addition to locations for Tech, Registration, and Grid Entry.
Karts have not raced at M.I.S. since 1992. Other than NASCAR Sprint Cup, there are only two motorsports events at M.I.S. this season, so this opportunity is pretty special.
If everyone shows up, we'll make this an annual event. So this year, no special memberships in local or national organizations are required. Just come out, and race.
Yes, we'll follow national and regional class rules guidelines, but without the hassles. The daily schedule document doubles as a translator for all your favorite national and regional classes. There are over 45 classes offered each day. If you can't find one that matches your ride, give me a call.
Over 90% of the classes run each day, so you have maximum race opportunity.
If you want to view the discussion about Friday Practice, see our web Forum under events/practice days at http://www.michkartclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=100
Our new web based pre-registration system offers you the flexibility to select all your race classes, transponder rentals, garages, and parking.
You can pay by check, credit card, or PayPal. Pretty easy. Just print out your receipt and send it by USPS with a check, or pay by credit card or PayPal on line.
Just bring a copy of your emailed receipt to registration, pick up your driver's wrist band, rental transponder if needed, and you are ready for action.
If for some reason, you have difficulty with the registration process, or send us information that needs later update, just send me an email or give me a call, and we'll correct any issues.
This online process will ensure that all your important information will be entered into the scoring computer correctly, your results will be posted accurately at MyLaps.com, and we can contact you next year. No more mis-spelled names, or incorrect transponder details.
Check out our web site for details www.michkartclub.com to find a course and facility description for both Waterford Hills and MIS.
See you there! |

Will these events be held rain or shine?
I had a very dissatisfying time driving 7+ hours one way to get rained out at Gingerman last fall. My family was not pleased I was away for zero fun at all.
So again I ask will these events be run in the rain if that is the weather of the day?
Thanks,

Yes we will be running in the rain, but not if it is all out storms. Can't risk it if it is down pouring or lightning. But light to moderate rain, yes we will be running. Everyone has rain tires or know of someone that does so the event can go on. _________________

I propose that Michigan be designated the unofficial state for the best kart road racing in the world.
Gingerman
Grattan
Michigan International Speedway
Waterford Hills
Mid Ohio would be on the list but unfortunately it is too far south. _________________ Tom Barth

You see Ronald, it is comments like this that if you attended a club meeting maybe you can voice your opinion and be heard. We have sent mailers, polls, facebook questions etc etc about where and when to race. When people do not respond and do not give input we have to do what works best and can keep our club alive.
We did try to put on a race THIS YEAR AT GRATTAN for more enduro karters. But I am not going to get into that.
We have thought and discussed so many options, so maybe you should give input to us or find out the reasons that we have had to do what we are doing now. _________________

Eric I will have to look up the gear for Waterford. But most people use the same gear for MIS as they do at Grattan. There is also no tire rule. Run whatever you may like _________________

Hey Eric,
Check with Tim Davis about Waterford gearing, I know Josh ran 4stroke 2 years ago and I think he may have ran last year as well.

Planning to attend the end of September this year.
Never ran M.I.S. but have watched CART events there. So MKC having races is a chance in a million.
Thanks for all your efforts.
