|
|
Our first event is this coming Sunday and of course, rain is predicted.
I've been shopping for rain tires and I'm surprised that there doesn't appear to be any 7.10 wide for the rear. Does everyone just run 6.00 wide on the rear in the rain? On what size rim?
Thanks,
Brad |

We do something similar on our B-Mod car. Wasn't sure if the same theory applied when the wheels are only 6'-7" wide.
Do you run a 6" rim with a narrow track? I don't think my axle is wide enough to run the same track as with the slicks. |

I just went through this whole ordeal. I bought some rain tires, 4.5" front and 6.0" rear, and expected to be able to use the same wheels as I used for my dry tires, which are 4.5" front and 7.1" rear. Come to find out, 4.5" tires are mounted on 130mm wheels, 7.1" tires are mounted on 210mm wheels, and the 6.0" tires should be mounted on 180mm wheels. So I put a WTB in the ekarting classifieds and within a day I picked up a pair of 180mm wheels for $60 that matched the 130mm wheels I already had.
Bottom line, you need 180mm wheels for 6.0" tires. And 6.0" is the widest I have seen for rain tires. _________________ 2008 Mike Wilson with Honda CR125 shifter |

As a general rule, that may be true. But, as always, some karts will not respond well to that setup, and each kart should be tuned to it's own best characteristics for rain days. The Renspeed does really well with something very close to the dry setup. Making the "normal" adjustments proved to bring on disastrous, nearly uncontrollable handling. Ask me how I know..... |
