I know this is just a little part of the whole kart that doesn't get talked about much, but it looks to be very important! When I bought the kart at the end of the year last year from a guy that owned it for 6 years, he didn't have a fuel filter installed before the pump. I thought this was weird and installed one after my first event. But, I didn't know the extent that no fuel filter could cause issues.
As most know from my other thread, I was having issues with the motor going flat in high load left-corners (at least I mainly noticed it in left-corners), so SwedeTech recommended I rebuild my fuel pump. I got the kits in the other day and got around to taking my fuel pump apart today, and this is what I found:
Yes, a pebble was lodged in one of the supply slots. After I slid the pump body off, another pebble fell out and ANOTHER pebble was wedged under the check valve, along with a piece of hair! This was all in the supply pump with a 2mm allen wrench for scale:
So, morale of the story, have a fuel filter before the pump!!! _________________ 2008 Mike Wilson with Honda CR125 shifter |

Yea I learned fuel filter the hard way couple years ago. Also learned to empty all fuel from everywhere when not running kart for awhile. _________________ Arrow AX-8/ Rotax Sr. |

I see a lot of people drain the fuel tank after every event, but I don't quite get the benefit? Can someone explain it to me? I can see draining everything for the winter, but I don't understand the benefit of doing it between events. |

Fuel not stored in a metal can looses octane and chemicals quickly.... Also the plastic tank gets brittle with fuel left in it for a long time leading to failure aka a cracked tank.... It's worth the 2 minutes it takes to drain it IMHO. _________________ Jason Vehige

After the first time you crack a fuel tank and lose your runs and probably get kart suit soaked with fuel, you'll realize why people drain their fuel systems after every event.
